“You know what, bye.”
“See you in a little while, baby.”
I rolled my eyes at my silly-ass smile as the phone beeped, indicating that he had hung up. I hated how willing I was to forgive him. Quinton didn’t seem like the type to lie or play games. He had proven that I could trust him up until that misunderstanding.
The fact that Victor’s mom almost vouched for him definitely helped. Per his request, I took the scenic route to the shop. I wasn’t sure if I was prepared for what I might find when I got there. Once my nerves were settled enough to face Rhonda without making her too suspicious, I headed for the shop.
When I pulled up, sure enough, a tire was missing from the back of my truck, and one of the mechanics was putting one of the front ones back on. Rhonda was toe-t- toe with another one of the guys, having a screaming match. When I got out of my truck, her eyes immediately shot to me.
“Girl, do you know these muthafuckas had taken two of the tires off the truck when I got here?”
“Boss’s orders,” the one standing in front of her said.
“Boss my ass. He’s not my damn boss,” Rhonda snapped.
“Can y’all please hurry this up so we can get to work? I don’t have time for this today,” I stated.
He shrugged. “You don’t need tires to work. That’s what Q said.”
“Well, this isn’t Q’s truck,” I quipped.
“Girl, they claim Q told them to remove the tires, but he didn’t say to change them, just to take them off.”
“He told me,” I revealed.
“Well, is he planning on getting you some new tires or something?”
“No. Apparently, he’s just crazy.”
“Q said it was too late to be messing with the tires since it was time for you to open.”
“That’s not what he told me. He said my tires would be back on this truck when I got here.”
“Well, my instructions were to leave the truck alone if you got here before we finished. He said he would handle it when he got here.”
“You know what? I don’t have time for this,” I said, brushing past him and heading inside the truck.
“I thought you were going to come in late today,” Rhonda mentioned, climbing into the truck behind me.
“I did too, but everything worked out.”
“Oh well, that’s good. I thought you were trying to go get you a quickie. I was all proud of my girl for being a ho.” Rhonda clowned.
“I’m not even going to play with you this morning. What you need me to do?”
“I actually got a good groove going. I didn’t know how long you and your man would be laid up.”
“Well, I’m here now. I think I need some coffee.”
“Oh, hell nah. When you start drinking coffee?” she asked.
“I just need a little kick this morning.”
“What you needed was some dick. Obviously, that fell through. What happened because first, my girl didn’t get her back broke, then I come to work to the tires being taken off the damn truck.”
“His son’s mama showed up,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“Girl, what? Not baby mama drama already. I had such high hopes for him.” Rhonda pouted.
