Blush freezes. “You… didn’t mean it?”

He doesn’t say anything, instead burying his face in the crook of my neck. I hold him close, somehow knowing he needs to process this. I don’t expect him to say it back. I don’t expect anything since I wasn’t planning on dropping that bomb tonight.

“Damn you,” Blush mutters. “This wasn’t supposed to happen.”

“No.”

“Now I have to deal with all these feelings, and I don’t know how.”

“You don’t have to deal with my feelings, but at least you know.”

He looks up and shakes his head. “You’re beautiful, but thick sometimes.”

“Huh?”

“I love you too, Whisper. Obviously.”

“Obviously?”

“I mean, isn’t it? I’m here all the time, I let you fuck me raw, I told you all my secrets.” He chews on his bottom lip for a second. “My cousin told me once that we don’t get to plan love. Sometimes it happens whether we want it to or not.”

“Seems to be the case.”

“I’m scared,” he admits. “I don’t know how to love someone.”

“Apparently you do. You’re already doing it.”

“But you didn’t know and we could act like none of this mattered. I could pretend it didn’t. Now I gotta own it and what if I fuck it up? What if I make you sad? What if you hurt me?”

“Hey.” I touch his cheek. “It’s new for both of us. We probably will fuck up sometimes, but that’s okay. We’ll figure it out. I can promise I’ll never hurt you on purpose, and I’ll try hard not to do it accidentally.”

His eyes soften and some of the fear leaves them. “I promise I’ll never keep my pain inside. I won’t do what Shawn did.”
