His lips quirk like he plans to smile, but it doesn’t actually happen. “Yes, you are.”

After leaving Shadow, I rejoin Whisper, who is patiently waiting outside the office. I smile when I see him.

“He offered me the job.”

“I figured you’d win him over.” He drapes his arms around my neck. “So what now, hit man?”

“Now I start the next phase of my life. With you.”

The sweet smile on Whisper’s face lets me know I’ve made the right decisions and that I’m exactly where I need to be.

“I like that plan.”

Two Years Later

“This is gonna feel good after hunting this guy for months.”

Crouched beside me, Whisper nods. “I agree. He’s a piece of shit.”

“The biggest.”

“You guys ready?” Ghost asks. “They should be coming out soon.”

“Ready.” I cock my gun.

It’s been two years since I became a part of Crestvale House, and damn, a lot has changed. Right after I accepted the job, I told my family I was moving in with my boyfriend and spent a family dinner holding in my laughter while watching Whisper interact with them like he’s just some guy and not the most amazing man on the planet. He won them over though.

He came with me to both my brothers’ graduation ceremonies and co-hosted a congratulatory dinner for Shelby when she got a promotion at the financial company where she works. My family is in a good place. And me? I’m fucking happy for the first time in my life.

Tonight, all the guys are here, taking down a trafficking ring we’ve been unraveling for eight months. Inside the warehouse is the leader, a loser who has successfully avoided law enforcement for three years. It all ends here.

Phantom signals that the warehouse doors are opening and we move in, creeping through the darkness.

Since I joined the team, they’ve each taught me skills and given me tips that have turned me into the efficient killer I am today. I’ve kept my name—because, really, how many more code names does that house need—but Shadow calls me Vicious and Whisper calls me his savage brat. I can live with that.

We descend on the five men too busy shoving underage boys into a van to notice us and rain down hell upon them. Boone and Whisper take care of the kids while the rest of us start shooting. Carnage gives new meaning to the term losing his shit as he massacres two guys by himself. While I lack his rage and Wraith’s creativity, I get shit done, popping a bullet into one of the guys.

Stealth whistles and I see him chasing the leader of all this, who’s taken off running. Stealth is right behind him and then I’m there too, launching myself at the guy’s legs before he can get too far. He fires off a round but Stealth is already there, holding his arms down.

I straddle the guy and press the barrel of my gun to his forehead. He’s a middle-aged guy, maybe a little older, with dark, tanned skin that’s definitely not natural, muddy brown eyes, and thinning hair, but he’s in shape and strong as fuck as he tries to buck me off him. He’s called the Stallion, which is honestly laughable.

“Hey, sooo, selling kids to perverts is a special level of fucked up.”

“Fuck you,” he spits.

“Ew. Absolutely not.”

Stealth chuckles.

“Just wanted you to know that your money and power couldn’t save you.”

“Go fuck yours—”

I pull the trigger before he can finish the word. Brain matter and blood shoot from his skull and his lifeless eyes stare at nothing.
