I lean in close to Whisper. “Ivy’s interested, so I told him to be bold.”
“In which one?”
I shrug. “Got me. Maybe both. I think Ivy’s pretty adventurous.”
“Interesting.”
There’s a commotion as the birthday boy and his friends get up from their table, but it’s clear that there was indeed something in the cocktail they tried to give me when the birthday boy stumbles and can’t stand up on his own.
“Drank too much,” his friend says to the people staring at them.
Whisper’s eyes darken. “Be right back.”
“You can’t kill them here,” I say quietly.
He smiles. “I know that.”
I watch as he follows the three men out with Gus right behind him. My nerves kick up a bit, but I have to trust that Whisper wouldn’t do something crazy like shoot them in the parking lot where I work.
He’s back a few minutes later, laughing and talking with Gus, so I relax. Whisper returns to the table, sitting next to me.
“When do you get off?”
“Um, ten tonight.”
“Do you need to go straight home or can you come over?”
“I can come over.”
He holds my gaze, parting his lips. “God, I want to kiss you. I want to pull you onto my lap and show everyone in this damn club that you’re mine.”
My stomach flutters. “Am I?”
“I think so, yeah. If you want to be. What do you think about that?”
I shrug, trying to be chill. “It’s cool.”
He chuckles. “There’s my brat.”
Smiling, I drag my finger down his arm. “Are you leaving?”
“For a little while. I’ll be back in time to meet you at the house. Just buzz the gate when you get there.”
“Are you going to do something to those guys?”
He shakes his head. “No. Got another task to take care of. Stealth is looking for backup, and obviously these two idiots are busy with your friend.”
“I’ll see you in a couple of hours, then.”
“Be ready. We’re not just talking tonight.”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
