“Look, I need your help, and you want your sister’s body. You owe me.”
“I don’t owe you shit.”
I sigh. “You’re right.”
I knew this was going to be a long shot. I walk over to the computer and set the phone down. We set something up before Atom got Psy’s number and I took a walk outside. I wanted everything done so I could have things ready when I wanted to make the play. It wasn’t something I could tell anyone else about; I was making it up as I went. But I knew there was a chance I would send something. Like I’m doing now, despite the headshakes from both Gina and Atom, who think it’s a bad idea.
“Look, I’m sending you information now. You should have it shortly.” I look at Gina for confirmation that I sent it correctly, and she nods, though her annoyance is clear on her face.
“What is it?”
“Proof.”
“Of what?” he snaps, his growl getting thicker.
“That Duke took your sister. That he was behind taking me and Ruby too.”
I hear keyboard clicks in the background, and I can only surmise that he got my message. “How do you have that?”
I laugh because it’s funny that out of everything, I would know this. “Apparently, I have a vast network of information at my hands these days. Anyway, use it for what you want. But there’s the proof your club needs to know his death was righteous.”
He just grunts.
I nod at Gina, who rolls her eyes but moves closer to the computer and hits a few keys before straightening again.
“I also just sent you another document.”
“And this is?”
“Coordinates. Go there and dig, and you’ll find Ava.”
Silence on his end. I didn’t expect a thanks. Wanted one, but I knew I wouldn’t get it. I was willing to barter with his dead sister’s body. That makes me almost as bad as the men who used to make life-and-death decisions in this room before me.
“You have the Devils Damned at your back.”
And then the line goes dead.
I look at the others, who seem just as shocked as I am.
“Well…,” I start.
“That went….” Atom shrugs, but it’s Gina who finishes.
“Not sure, but it went.”
We all nod in agreement.
Gina scoffs. “Who knew giving information before the stabbing and torture could lead to getting something. Might have to try that on my next meal ticket.”
Right….
I share a look with Atom, but neither of us voices our concerns about Gina. She’s truly terrifying in her own right.
“Who’s hungry? I’m starved,” the assassin says with a clap of her hands.
“Got anything other than fish?” Atom asks.
Gina shrugs. “Not a cook, but I know the kitchen is stocked.” She leaves the room.
