“I’m payin’ for more work, muthafucka.”

He nodded. “Where is her phone?”

“In my pocket.”

“Leave it here until we decide what to do with it. If you take it moving across town with you and anybody ever pulls location data, you just created a trail.”

I knew this, but my mind was fucked up right now, and this is why I hired him. Pulling her phone out, I sat it on the counter.

“I’ll wipe everything down. Some of your DNA will be here because y’all were a couple. That’s a given. Did anyone know you were here?”

“Only my security at the compound gate. I’ll get with my other guy to clear all cameras and devices.”

He nodded towards the folder. “What’s that?”

“None of yo’ business.”

“Well, get it the fuck out of here,” he said.

He wasted no time getting to work. This was one of the reasons why I loved the King’s connections. My guy was an ex- government employee who was used to working crime scenes. Much like my IT guy. He worked so many scenes for me, and nothing was left behind. The solution he used left no traces of blood. Because of the job he does, I had to make sure his check was cleared. Soon, the sun would be up, and people would begin to move around. I grabbed the folder and left.

I hadn't been asleep since I woke up the day before. When I made it home, I got straight in the shower. All I could do was stand under the hot water and let that shit beat my ass up. My mind was a little fucked up. This was not how my day was supposed to fucking start. Nikki. Someone I loved was doing shit behind my back to get me jammed up. Then, on the other hand, it was fucked up for me not to be honest with her about my situation with Kyenna. I stood under that water until the shit became cold. It wasn’t until I started shivering that I grabbed the soap and washcloth to wash my ass. My body was tired when I got out, but my mind was racing, so I couldn't sleep.

It was dark out when I was awakened by my phone ringing. My head was pounding as I patted around blindly for my phone. It had fallen in between my pillows.

“Hello?” I answered without looking.

“Everything good? We had a huge drop today, and you weren’t here. I had them drop it and told no one to touch it.

“Fuck man.” I rubbed my eyes. “I’ll be there shortly. You can lock up.”

This shit with Nikki had fucked my whole schedule up. I threw the cover off and rushed to brush my teeth and wash my face. Next, I threw on something real quick and rushed out the door to head to the warehouse. It was going to be another long night since I had to go through the shipments. Some shit that I was supposed to do around two. I pulled out of my driveway and headed towards the main gate when I noticed Lloyd and Kyenna standing outside of his car. My eyes immediately went to the dash to see the time.

“Fuck he doin’ over here this late? Can’t be any fuckin’ law business goin’ on.”

I picked up my phone and went to our text thread.

Me: Ky you gonna get yo’ lawyer killed. Get rid of that nigga

The three bubbles popped up and disappeared. I didn’t have time to swing back and interrupt their shit because I had my own business to handle. Now that Nikki was out of the picture, it was time for Lloyd to take his goofy ass on too.

CHAPTER 31

KYENNA

Ifollowed Lloyd’s eyes as he watched the taillights of Shameek’s truck leave the gate. It was late, and we had just made it back from dinner. I decided to keep that from Shameek because I didn’t want him ruining my night by calling and texting, when I knew for a fact he hadn't handled his shit with Nikki. I read his text twice and started to say something back but stopped when Lloyd grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him.

“I enjoyed your company tonight. It felt good to sit among my peers with a beautiful woman, and she can hang in the conversation.”

“It was nice. Thank you for inviting me. That was refreshing to be doing something different, and the food.” I closed my eyes. “The food was so good.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. Maybe next time we can go enjoy dinner and cut off the business talk.”

“I would like that,” I told him.

“Really?” he questioned. “I know how Shameek is about you.”

“Don’t worry about him. That’s why I didn’t tell him about dinner tonight.”
