Remorse and contrition flash across Forbes’ face, but he doesn’t look away when he says, “I’m sorry I hurt you. I can’t say I’m sorry for all of it, a part of me did love you in a way I shouldn’t have at the time, but I am sorry it ended the way it did, that it tore my friendship with your father apart, that it came between you and him today. That’s not what I wanted.”
I blow a strand of hair from my face, and lean my head to the side. “He’ll come around, for all his faults he wants me to be happy, and I just think he needs time to get used to this version of us. He still sees me as a kid who, he feels, was taken advantage of, and his best friend who betrayed his trust. He won’t see it that way forever.”
Forbes’ phone cuts into our conversation, and he glowers. “This fucking app,” he gripes. “I can’t delete it.”
“Which app?”
“This Plenty of thing, it’s impossible to get rid of.”
“Throw your phone against the wall,” I tell him. “That’s what I did. When I got my new phone, the app wasn’t there.”
“You threw your phone against the wall because of an app?”
I quirk a brow. “No, Forbes, I threw my phone against the wall because you pissed me off, and I lost my shit. The only reason that app is gone is because I got a new phone.”
Without missing a beat, Forbes launches his phone against the nearest wall and proves that he’s gone crazy. “Wha—”
“You said it worked for you,” he replies, completely nonplussed about the phone he just destroyed. “I don’t want the app anymore, I don’t need dates for work functions.”
“Is that so?”
“It is. The only person I want to take anywhere from now on is sitting right here.”
“You are so plenty full of shit, Forbes Macallan.” He’s plenty of other things too, like charming, attractive, intelligent, and a solid eleven out of ten in bed. He also has plenty of sex appeal to go with his plenty of peen, and muscles, and stamina. But mostly, I think he’s plenty of mine.
