“I knew they’d figure it out.”
“I put an extra-large meat lovers in the oven for the group, along with some breadsticks. Do you want to add anything to that?”
“Can you do a small pepperoni for Caleb?”
“Sure.” He glanced at Abe, who was tossing dough. “We need a small for Milo.”
“Coming right up.”
Gentry turned back to Milo. “How’s the living situation working out?”
“It’s…good. Great.”
Gentry cocked his head. “I don’t quite believe you.”
“Seriously. It’s been smooth sailing. It’s nice having the company.”
“Okay. Good. That is a really big house to wander around in all by yourself.”
“So I’ve been told. The parlor is done.”
Gentry grinned. “When’s the pool table coming?”
“I’m going to order one this week.”
“Billiard party next weekend?”
“If all goes well, yeah.”
Abe took their pizza out of the oven and slid it onto a pan, then sliced it. “Pizza number one. I’ll have the other out in a few.”
Gentry picked up the pizza. “Grab the breadsticks, and I’ll take this to the table for you.”
They brought the food to the table, and Gentry kissed Marti, then smiled at Wilda. “Nice to see you again, Wilda.”
“Thank you. This looks great.”
“We have a pepperoni coming out soon.”
“I appreciate that.”
Gentry patted Milo on the back. “It was Milo’s request.”
He headed back to the kitchen, and Milo sat down next to Wilda, but kept close to the edge of the booth, leaving a foot between them. He poured himself some root beer from the pitcher on the table. “Looks good.”
The boys noticed the pizza had been delivered, and they left the arcade. Caleb approached Milo, who smiled, then slid over toward Wilda. Caleb sat down and patted the seat next to him. Levi sat down, and Milo moved over again, leaving just inches between himself and Wilda.
He glanced at Wilda and muttered, “Sorry.”
Levi and Rylen sat next to Marti, and Micah dragged a chair over to the end of the table. Marti smiled. “This is nice and cozy.”
Milo nodded. “Yeah. Super cozy.”
The boys dug into the pizza, and Caleb ate a breadstick while he waited for the pepperoni to arrive. Milo picked up a slice of pizza and offered it to Wilda.
“Are you having a slice?”
“I’ll wait for the pepperoni. I’ll take a breadstick, though.”
