“Yes. The guys are coming over next weekend.”
“Can I come?”
“No.”
“Asshole.”
“It’s a bro night. You’re not a bro.”
“I’ll hang out with Wilda.”
“No.”
“And here I was going to cancel my date for you.”
Milo arrived back at the house. “I need to go.”
“Me too. Apparently, I need to break Max’s heart tonight.”
“Max? Max Crenshaw?”
“Maybe.”
“What were you thinking?”
“Goodbye, Milo.”
“Good luck.”
Max was the last person in town Milo would’ve guessed she was dating. “Poor bastard. You’re in way over your head, buddy.”
Wilda was in the kitchen when Milo came in, and the big room suddenly seemed very small. “I, ah…just getting some water.”
She moved away from the refrigerator. “I don’t think Caleb and I will want much of a dinner tonight after eating pizza so late in the afternoon.”
“Yeah. Me either. We’ll skip dinner.”
“Sounds good.”
He filled a glass with cold water, then drank half of it down. “I’ve narrowed the pool table selection down to a couple of choices. Do you want to help me make the final decision?”
“I don’t know anything about pool tables, but sure.”
“I’ll go get my laptop.” When he returned, Wilda was sitting at the table. He sat next to her and pulled up the saved webpage.
“Oh my gosh. Those are beautiful tables. I’ve only seen the ones in bars.” He glanced at her, and she smiled. “I’ve been to a bar or two.”
“Right.” He clicked on one of the tables. “I think this is my favorite. I like the wood on it.”
“It goes with the room. Let me see the other one.”
He showed her the other option. “That’s nice, too. But I think I like the first one. They are really expensive.”
“My brothers are helping out with the cost.”
“I think you should go with the first one. How soon can they deliver it?”
He read through the item description and shipping information. “Next-day shipping from Montana. I think it would get here by the weekend.”
