Sin laughs at this and it spurs him on.
“I mean it though. There will come a time that you are no longer doing this, there will be a time when we will be able to be together. All of us. And you, my dear Omega, my dear mate, will be free. Will know love like you’ve never known before.”
Tears are streaming down both our faces now, and she gives me a watery smile before pulling me into another tight embrace.
Chapter Twenty
Sin
“Sin!” Mama shouts at me from across the room.
It’s the middle of the day, no patrons around, and as soon as the other Omegas hear Mama‘s angry tone, they all scurry off like rats.
I turned to her just before she heads back into her office, an indication that I am to follow her. Once I enter the office, I immediately see an an alpha standing behind her desk to the side of her chair. One I’ve never met before.
“Come in and shut the door.”
I walk in and sit in the chair after closing the door behind me.
“You’ve been very busy, Sin.”
Her tone, her demeanor, and the stranger standing behind her, all have my senses going haywire. All the warnings that the universe had been throwing at me, all the terrible things that I imagined could happen flash through my mind now, all over again.
I don’t know what she means by “busy,” but my eyes flick to the tall Asian man standing behind her, his hands clasped in front of him, the telltale bulge of a gun at his side at his ribs.
“Don’t look at him,” she commands. “You look at me.” Her expression fills with darkness and disgust. “I know those three Alphas who keep booking you for entire nights were the ones who hosted that New Year’s Eve party Petrov took you to. I have them on camera.”
My heart feels like it stops beating. The world stills all around me and a high-pitched whine rises in my ears.
“Did you know that they’ve been staking out the club from the building across the alley?”
I hadn’t known that at all. They hadn’t told me. But I had a feeling that they were watching me, a feeling that they also knew about the surveillance inside the club that I couldn’t warn them about. I’ve been trying very hard not to let too many details come out in our conversations, ever since she added more bugging devices to all of the private rooms and additional security cameras everywhere.
But I think back to Garen’s last visit. The heartfelt conversation we had. Him telling me about his trauma and the terrible things that he endured as a child and my offer of love and consolation and healing.
He told me later that it had been all over the news the entire time he was missing. All because of his family’s importance.
She must have looked him up after listening to his story, cross-referencing his I.D.
I made a huge mistake. I’ve doomed us all.
“Nothing to say?”
I swallow, throat a desert. “They did hold the ball in New York, yes.”
“And they just followed you here because they were so enamored with you?”
“I believe so,” I say, but my tone makes this statement an even bigger mistake. Mama knows that I am not quiet or shy, not even with her.
I’m trying too hard to feign innocence, and I can see in her face that she knows everything.
She looks up at the alpha at her side. “This is Takashi Miki. He is going to be your shadow. He will follow you absolutely everywhere, except for where you are fully contained. Meaning your bedroom., where there are no windows and no access to the outside world. I will allow you this for your years of contribution to my club. But outside of your bedroom, Mr. Miki is going to be with you everywhere.” Her head tilts and her eyes grow dark and beady.
A spike of fear runs through my body.
“He has orders to kill each, and every one of those three alphas if they come anywhere near you or my club again.”
Now, the world begins to spin much too fast, much too—
