My question surprises me, actually. I don’t know if I meant to ask it, and I don’t know if I even care what her answer is. But I do feel that there’s truth there. My senses are telling me there’s something else here, other than her being a violent and controlling business owner.

She scoffs a laugh, her tone unusually scornful. “You want to know my whole life story? How very nice of you.”

“Not nice. You’re a disgusting human being. Maybe even more disgusting than the fat piece of shit I just let bleed out downstairs.”

This makes her eyes widen a fraction as they roam across my body, assessing my clothes and the carnage splatted across them.

“You deserve the same treatment as he got.” I spit onto the carpet at my feet, adjust the gun in my grasp. “I’m giving you the chance to tell me what your plan was. What your goal was.” I shrug noncommittally. “Do or don’t. Honestly, it won’t change the outcome.”

She laughs, and it isn’t humorous. “You Omegas and Alphas all think you’re so superior. I just got a rush out of bending weak Omegas to my will and using Alphas to build my empire off their backs.”

I give her an unimpressed glance, turn to gaze at my Alphas, all leaning against the wall by the doorway. Then, I look back at her, raising the gun to her face. “Okay.”

“Wait!”

I raise a single brow at her.

“Don’t you want to know what I found out about you?”

“No.”

“What?”

“I don’t want to hear anything about me from you. You don’t know me, and anything you think you know or believe you’ve uncovered is worthless because you’re worthless. Nothing you say has any meaning to me or anyone else you used and controlled and hurt. Anyone you led to their death because they did something that upset your fragile ego.” I take a step closer, gun raised again. “You are meaningless. And a failure. And no one is going to miss you.”

I fire one shot, just off-center in her forehead.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Sin

Outside the house, there are three cars parked in the driveway with people inside, and I stiffen.

“It’s okay,” Cade tells me gently. “They’re with us.”

Relieved, I nod slowly, and Garen wraps his arm around me, leading me away from the property and into an SUV down the road where we climb in the back.

It takes a long time for Ilya and Cade to join us. In that time, more vehicles roll up to the house, including several ambulances without their lights or sirens on.

“I don’t think there’s any helping the people inside,” I grouse.

“They’re not here for the monsters. They’re here for the Omegas.”

My head whips toward Garen, lips parted, brow pinched hard enough it aches. “Omegas?”

“Yes, love. They were being held there.”

“How many?”

“Couldn’t say, exactly. More than ten, less than twenty. They’re going to need a lot of care.”

“I should—”

“You’ll stay right here. With me.”

Garen’s scent switches from his orange zest to that warm chocolate as his voice changes.

His other half.
