“No.”

“You sure? Because I’m positive I can conquer it.”

She was positive he could conquer the entire state of Colorado. That wasn’t the point. “I’d like to see Aspen, but I don’t want to live there. It’s just one place. I want to go everywhere in the human realm.”

“We can visit all the human cities you desire.”

She sent him a skeptical look. “Really? You’d want to do that?”

“I want you to laugh and be happy. With me. Everything else is details.”

Randa stared up at him, not sure what to say.

Her energy had no trouble responding, though. She felt her Stone powers reaching out for Kahn. It rubbed against his Light energy, wanting to get as close as possible. It was kind of embarrassing, but Randa couldn’t draw it back. Now that she’d found her Match, the biological need to Phaze was taking over.

Luckily, Kahn didn’t seem distressed that her powers were curling all around his. His eyes fluttered closed, as if he relished every second of their contact.

His powers were vast and there were jagged edges to them. Darkness festering where only Light should be. Julius and Mara were right. Kahn was barely hanging on to civilization. His energy was wounded. It wanted to lash out at the world. It wanted to protect Kahn by not letting anyone else close.

Except her.

Kahn’s powers craved Randa. They wrapped around her own energy, like the Stone powers felt safe and healing. The ominous shadows inside the Light energy lifted. Kahn’s powers moved against hers in some perfect, instinctive way, sending a shiver of desire through her body.

Kahn liked that response. A low sound of pleasure rumbled from his chest, and it made Randa’s insides squeeze. She wanted to hear it closer to her ear and…

“Okay.” Tallulah Jayne clapped her hands, breaking the spell Randa was under.

She jolted and looked over at the human.

Kahn cursed in annoyance.

Tallulah Jayne held up her palms, making a big announcement to the table. “I told myself to wait and be sure about this. But fate has finally brought me the rich, handsome, vampire, alien, king guy that I deserve, and I don’t want to waste any time with him.”

“We’re immortal.” Rye chimed in, because he was just so, so good at blending with the humans. “Well, practically immortal, anyway. You will be too, once we Phaze.”

“And that’s what we’re going to do.” Tallulah Jayne declared. “Complete that Phazing thingamajig. Right now. Because I’m ready to be royalty and to commit myself to you, Rysimer. You buy me pretty stuff, and you listen when I talk, and I think you could legit melt people with your mind. You’re perfect for me!” She sniffed, touched by her own pledge of devotion. “Let’s get naked, boo.”

Rye didn’t have to be told twice. “My queen!” He bounded to his feet and lifted her into his arms like she was Scarlett O’Hara.

Tallulah Jayne wrapped her arms around his neck, as he swept her from the restaurant.

The two of them were a lot.

“Maybe there’s still time to save that lobster.” Julius mused. “Ashley, would you like a pet to play with?”

“No, I…” Ashley stood up, seeming dazed by this entire experience. “I’m going to the bathroom. For a long time.”

Except she headed straight for the exit.

Kahn sent Randa a hopeful glance. “Do you want me to carry you out into the night, while you kiss me and tear at my clothes? Because I will happily do that.”

“No.”

Kahn looked disappointed that she was shooting down more of his plagiarized romance ideas. “How about a pet lobster, then?”

Randa texted him a middle finger emoji.

Kahn laughed so hard his shoulders shook.
