I decide on the table.
My phone buzzes.
Jordan:
He's already asleep on my good pillow. You're welcome. Also I want it on record that I know exactly why you needed the whole night and I have chosen not to comment further.
Wyatt:
I appreciate your restraint.
Jordan:
You sound like you're emailing HR. Never text me that politely again. Gross.
The knock comes right on time. I open the door to find Quinn holding up a bottle of wine.
“I brought wine.”
“I can see that. I actually have wine.”
She gives me a skeptical look. “What kind?”
“I don’t know. Red?”
“Exactly.” She holds up the six-pack in her other hand. “And I brought you beer because I’m thoughtful like that.”
I take it from her. “Man, you really are the best girlfriend.”
“I know.”
She walks past me into the apartment, and I catch the faint smell of her shampoo as I close the door behind her.
Quinn toes off her shoes and glances around. “Where’s Pickles?”
“Jordan’s.”
Her eyes come back to mine. “For the night?”
“For the whole night.”
A smile tugs at the corner of her mouth. “You really planned ahead.”
“I learn from my mistakes.”
She laughs, and I set the beer on the counter before walking back to her.
“Hi, by the way.”
“Hi.”
I put a hand on her waist and kiss her.
She kisses me back immediately, her hands sliding up my chest before settling around my neck, and whatever I was going to say next can wait.
When she makes a soft sound in the back of her throat, I feel it all the way down.
“Promise me we’re not taking things slow tonight,” she says against my mouth.
