My eyes smart with tears at Paige’s bravery and what the Omega I’ve been falling for has been suffering alone.
No more.
“Don’t look like you’re about to faint, hero.” Devlin smirks. “Do you reckon that’ll happen? I’ve offered to buy the inn. And the Omega. As long as Paige bonds with me and becomes my Omega, then I’ll pay. Four hundred thousand in cash is nothing to me. Plus, I’ll be making Dad’s year by finally settling down.”
The phone call.
Devlin has been pressuring Paige with the offer to buy the inn but only if she becomes his Omega.
“You son of a bitch.” My fingers tighten around his throat.
“How about,” Judd says, as I come dangerously close to throttling Devlin, “we take over with this prick, while you call your pack? Go find a way to save the Omega, Chief.”
The rest of the crew mutter their agreement.
I glance over at Walker, and he nods.
I toss Devlin toward the rest of my crew, who grab tightly to him. “How about you show him what happens to those who mess with us?”
“Wait? What?” Devlin cries, startled.
“And you,” I fix him with a sharp look, “aren’t welcome on our board or the hospital’s. In fact, you ain’t welcome on any board or committee in this town. Try to show up and see what happens.”
“You can’t just…”
“Try me.” I grab him by the chin. “Don’t you damn well try and buy Paige tomorrow.”
Devlin shakes his chin out of my hold.
His eyes blaze. “Do anything you like to me. You won’t stop me bidding.”
I stare at Devlin.
He’s determined, lost in this toxic love since high school.
I need another plan.
I give Judd a sharp smile. “Have fun.”
Devlin wails, as he’s carried between the men further into the garden.
I prowl back to the shade of the archway, dragging out my phone.
Thinking hard, I rap my fingers on the crumbling stone of the archway.
I stare back at the grand house, which has meant everything to me.
What can I sell in time to save my Omega?
What can I do?
What would I give up? My own memories and past?
I am surprised how easily the answer is yes.
This month has been Paige’s long goodbye to the inn, and I didn’t even know it.
I won’t let her lose everything.
