Luca stumbles to the wall, sinking down against it. He is holding his arms over his head.

“Chief l-l-loves you too. He’s g-g-giving up….giving everything…” He pulls his knees up and drops his head onto them.

He is overwhelmed.

I knew that something was off every time Rhett was mentioned.

Luca is hiding something, and he’s not good at that.

Angel pulls away from me, concerned.

“You don’t need to talk, pretty,” he says softly. “Just sit there and breathe.”

I cross my arms. “What the hell is going on with Rhett? As a soon-to-be-bonded Omega in your pack, I deserve to know.”

Angel bites his lip. “The contract⁠—"

“Fuck the contract.”

“Fair point.”

“She wants us,” Luca mumbles from behind his arms. “And we want her.”

“It’s more complicated than that,” Angel replies. “I wish it wasn’t.”

“Can’t we just choose each other? The heat was meeting a biological need. But the attraction between the three of us wasn’t built on that. We fell for each other for different reasons. We fit together. Now, we can make a choice to continue this outside the clinic. Isn’t it that simple?”

“I choose you.” Angel strides to me, sliding his fingers through my hair. “I will always choose you. But it’s not that simple. For now, get dressed. I’ll make you a more substantial breakfast. Then we’ll work out a plan for this auction. You need to tell me more about it, okay? Because this has been a shock. I don’t know how shit like that works. Then Luca and I will go with you because you’re not facing it alone.”

My chest is suffused with warmth.

I woke up this morning, dragging the bedding over my head and imagining that the Coles would leave, then I would be facing the auction and Devlin alone.

My world has shifted on its axis simply from Angel stating that they will be going with me to the auction like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

Except, that’s him and Luca.
