“It adds rustic charm. Go to bed, bitch.”
“Night, Soph.”
I drop the phone onto the floor.
Now that I have stopped working, exhaustion pulls at me. The stairs look too steep. The backs of my calves ache.
I may have to crawl to bed tonight, but with deep satisfaction, I glance around the lobby. Most of the main areas of the floor are gleaming, and the walls and high ceilings are cobweb-free.
“Ain’t half bad,” I mutter.
When the phone vibrates with a text, my eyes light up.
I didn’t reckon I would be able to feel this excitement about someone messaging me ever again.
It’s one of the Coles.
I snatch up the phone, hurriedly reading the message.
My shoulders relax when I see that it’s from Angel.
I didn’t know how anxious I was to see whether he would keep his promise to contact me, until his message reached me on the first night. But he hasn’t missed a night yet.
Are you ready for bed, beautiful?
I quickly reply.
Still working.
Angel’s response is immediate and laced with concern beneath his playfulness.
Friendly paramedic reminder. Eat something not out of a vending machine, drink water, and sleep. Preferably in that order.
Try not to make me come and check your vitals. I just got off a 24-hour shift. But still, I will.
You won’t. Food, water, bed. Got it.
Good Omega. Get some rest.
I shiver involuntarily at his good omega. My cheeks flush.
My fingers shake as I type.
Night, Halo.
I pull up the hood of my top, wanting to feel cocooned in Angel’s scent.
When my phone vibrates again, I check it.
I fidget, wondering if the message will be from Luca or Rhett. The two Alphas couldn’t be more different. It makes me wonder how they came to bond in a pack, and even more, how they successfully live together.
My Angel says u are still up working. U will exhaust yourself. Go 2 bed.
I shake my head. That’s Luca: direct to the point of rudeness. And I find that I don’t hate it. I always know where I am with him.
Only if you will. I bet that you’re working too.
This is my job.
