Knot My Fate

This is my choice.

It has been from the start.

I am in control.

This time I don’t hesitate. I climb onto his lap.

“Good.” Rhett praises.

Angel breaks off a corner of the muffin, which is crunchy with nuts. He passes it to his Alpha like this is a ritual.

Then Rhett gently holds it to my lips.

I take the buttery, sweet muffin. My eyes flutter closed at the delicious richness like eating pecan pie. Angel is a damn good baker. I make sure to swirl my tongue in thanks over Rhett’s fingers.

He growls deep in his throat, letting his fingers linger across my lips.

In turn, I press a kiss to them.

Rhett stiffens.

My eyes snap open.

And I find myself staring deeply into Rhett’s shocked gaze.

He looks vulnerable and…not fucking emotionless at all.

I can’t look away.

Neither can he.

The ping of his phone breaks the moment.

Instantly his expression blanks, becoming grim and utterly professional.

I stiffen with shock, when he pushes me off his lap and grabs the phone from his pocket.

What is happening?

Angel stands on the alert. “Can you handle it from here? Or are you going in?”

Rhett’s expression is tight, as he leaps up.

He climbs over the bench. “They’re just sending me the details. A fire. I’m going in.”

Panicked, I glance between them. “Wait, what…?”

Rhett is already running for the door. “Got to go, darlin’.”

Angel glances sadly at the food sizzling on the range. “I’ll keep your breakfast warm.”

“Don’t bother. This will take a while.” Rhett’s gaze scans over me, before it settles on Angel. “Take over for me here, honey. Look after our Omega. I’ll phone you when I can.”

“Be careful.”

“Ain’t I always?” Rhett sprints out of the door, and Angel and I can only watch him go.

Terror rushes through me.
