When I arrived at the little bunch of tables, Prue was there feeding Merrick a fry. A smile tipped up my lips as I pulled out my phone and snapped a picture. That was definitely a Kodak moment.

Prue spotted me and waved for me to join them again. A growl echoed out and I recognized it immediately.

My brother.

He was in his wolf form. I was just relieved he was out here not hiding himself away in his house.

Dorian let out a huff and I took that as acknowledgment or a wolfish greeting. I didn’t hesitate any longer before going to my omega.

"What took you so long?" Prue asked as I took the seat across from them.

"Blake needed a bathroom break and I got hit on by two hotties," I smiled at her.

There was a glint of jealousy in her eyes when her phone lit up and whatever was on the screen had her laughing.

"Those hotties are in their seventies and you're trying to make me envious of them?" she demanded, her humor shining right through any attempt at seeming genuinely offended.

"That floral moo-moo was kind of hot," I shrugged, eyeing her playfully. “We could get you a matching one.”

Prue play hit my hand on the table, "If that's what turns you on, I know where she gets them."

"Get one for Merrick, too," I told her as I picked up a fork and took a bite of my fries.

It was too easy to joke around with her. Merrick didn’t join in yet but I figured if we gave our shapeshifter enough time he’d warm up and be just as snarky as the rest of us.

“So, I take it from the lack of a new face at our table you didn’t find anything?” I asked as I snagged a fry and bit down. It was the perfect mix of savory and salty.

She frowned and glanced around. “It’s still lingering and I thought I spotted a shifter disappearing into the woods, but he seems reluctant.”

At her words I choked on the bite I just took, coughing hard enough Merrick smacked me on the back a few times. She slid over a drink and I took a large pull to calm myself.

“You good?”

“Yeah,” I said, not wanting to freak her out yet. But it sounded an awful lot like my little brother might just be the mate she was scenting. Unless this town had multiple shifters out casing the woods.

Fuck, this just got a whole lot more complicated. My brother was mostly a recluse. If I got him to even get close to her it would be a miracle.

As the evening wore on I tried to stay focused on my pack but it was almost a relief when I walked her home. Then walked right next door to ask my brother what the hell was going on.

He stalked in the back door the moment I pushed in the front. He was still in wolf form and I stared down at him until a chicken followed him in. Guess that one that jumped in the window had decided to stay.

“She’s your mate, too, isn’t she? The witch next door. And since when do wolves have chicken shadows?”

He changed in the blink of an eye, his fangs still showing, ears and tail twitching in annoyance, but the rest of him was human.

And far too naked.

“Put some clothes on, brother,” I said as I shielded my eyes. He let out a scoff that was still half-animal.

“What the fuck do you mean, ‘too?’ Fuck this thing was in the house and has been annoying me since,” he demanded instead. I let my hand drop and stared at him.

“You’re an intelligent alpha, Dorian. You know exactly what that means and I think it’s sweet you finally have a friend.”

He let out another growl, his glowing, blue eyes flashing with annoyance. The alpha was always a bit grumpy after a shift and I was used to it.

I ignored him and went to the kitchen, putting the kettle on the stove and pulling out the looseleaf tea. There was something methodical and calming about brewing it this way. I rummaged around his drawers until I found the tea diffusers, filling both, and hooking them to our mugs.
