The side effects hit Prue first. I don’t know if it was because she was smaller than I was, but something sparked in her eyes before she blurted out her next words.
“I’ve been holding back because I’ve been afraid you guys were going to hurt me, but I really do trust you. I was also the one who accidentally put salt in your coffee. Dorian just took the flak.”
She smacked a hand over her mouth as the words spilled out of her.
“Oh, God. It turned into a truth serum. How the fuck does that happen?” she gasped out as her hand fell away.
“Well, we don’t know that,” I started. Then the same urge to speak hit me, and the words were falling from my lips.
“I had a dirty dream about you last night, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.”
Her cheeks turned pink, and she burst out a laugh. “Was it at least a good one?”
My eyes darkened, and I smirked at her. “So good. I’m still hearing those sexy, little moans I teased from you.”
“I want you to stop holding back.” She looked horrified as the words fell free from her lips without her consent. “I wanted all of you so bad, but I get in my own way too much, and I need you guys to do something about it before I combust.”
“I secretly want to be your first. I’m a possessive man at heart, Prue.”
The bubbling sensation started to fade already, and from the looks of Prue sagging into the chair next to her worktable, I had a feeling she was also realizing that.
“Do you trust the magistrate?” This time the question turned serious. Was this something she feared and was holding back because of it?
“No. Anyone that trusts the government implicitly is a fool. They will always do what’s best for them and their image and not for the people. I think this town is obvious evidence of that.”
“Why do you stay then?” she questioned.
“For him. For you. For all the cursed people I’ve dealt with over the years and couldn’t save.”
“I hate them,” Prue said, shaking her head. “I tried to tell them the truth, and just like everyone else in my life, they were too quick to blame me and sweep it under the rug. No real investigation.”
“I’ve seen that a time or two myself. But I fight through because someone has to be on the people’s side. The sensation had faded completely now. “I think it’s over. No more truths from those pretty lips of yours.”
“The same lips you’ve been dreaming about?” she challenged.
“You say the word, Prudence Ever, and I’ll be yours. But once you give in, there’s no going back.”
It took her a second to work up the courage, but I was a patient man. I waited until those words were out in the open.
“I want you, Rook Sinclair. Take me.”
There was no hesitation as I stepped forward, pulling her into my arms. My lips slanted over hers in a searing kiss. It was every bit as possessive as I felt right now. This was the moment I’d been dying for. I’d found my way past her defenses.
There might have been truth serum involved, but maybe that’s exactly what we needed. A little truth and communication.
I swept Prue into my arms and she tightened her legs around my waist as I carried her down the hall to her nest. She’d put it together when she moved in but hadn’t invited us in. I froze outside the door.
“Are you going to let me in your nest, omega?”
“Yes,” she broke the kiss long enough to answer.
I pushed through the door and breathed in. It already smelled like her but needed a whole lot more of her pack scents in here. I’d establish mine here and now.
Prue, let out the sweetest whimpers as I devoured her, my hands kneading her ass where I held her to my chest.
She wiggled against me and I dropped to my knees before laying her out on the mattress. My body pressed into her as I hovered over her. I wasn’t done kissing her yet.
But my little witch decided she had waited long enough. Her hands frantically gripped my shirt and tugged it free, tossing it aside.
