Shane’s hand splays on my stomach as he pulls my back to his front. He nuzzles against my neck, kissing to the top of my shoulder as the sheet slowly slips down.

“I’m supposed to be getting up,” I remind him.

He nips at my skin. “Or you can stay here and spend all day letting me give you orgasms.”

“Fuck.” I moan as he presses his hard cock against my ass. “You make this absolutely impossible.”

He chuckles against my skin, skimming his fingers down and toying with me until I squirm. He already woke me up with his mouth between my legs, but it’s like he can’t get enough.

Especially this past week. Something about Steel’s visit changed Shane’s mood. Whatever they talked about has him smiling more. Relaxed even. And it has him spending every free minute with me, which makes me wonder if he’s leaving sooner than he thought, so he’s claiming every moment he can.

“I really do need to get up. The inspector will be at Ransack in forty-five minutes, and you know how grumpy I am unless I have coffee.”

He hums against my neck. “You seem pretty happy right now.”

“That’s post-orgasm haze.” I giggle as he tries to pull me close, slipping out of the sheets and his grip.

I stumble to the floor, naked.

Shane stretches his arms behind his head and shows off delicious planes of tattooed muscle that have me wanting to cancel the inspection and climb back into bed.

“I’ll make it up to you,” I promise.

Shane watches as I slip into my clothes and wrangle my hair into a knot at the top of my head.

When I’m fully dressed, he snags my hand and pulls me back onto the bed so I’m straddling him. The sheet covers him from the waist down, but it does nothing to hide the steel length of his excitement.

Shane clutches the back of my neck, pulling me close.

“I’m the one who makes things up to you, cowgirl.” His kiss is intimate and slow.

Deep and intense.

His lips move with utter certainty, his tongue tracing until I give him access. And when he flips us so he’s naked, lying over me on the bed, my hands get lost roaming his skin.

Only once he’s thoroughly worked me up does he break the kiss, planting a final one on my forehead and climbing off me like the tease he is.

“Wonderful, now I’ll be thinking about that during the inspection.”

“That was the point.” He winks, slipping on a pair of sweats that do very little to hide his erection.

Shane disappears into the bathroom, leaving me alone on the bed. I throw an arm over my eyes and grumble. It doesn’t matter how many days I wake up next to this man; I can’t get enough, which has me dreading what comes next.

The thought of Shane leaving gets harder by the day.

You can handle this.

You’ve done worse.

So why doesn’t it feel like it?

I finally climb out of bed and make my way through the bunkhouse to start a pot of coffee. It’s eight thirty, so Lawson’s truck is the only one missing. He gets up early to take Max to preschool, but the other guys were up late last night, so they’re probably sleeping in.

Coffee brews while I stare out the window and listen to the chug of water through the pipes from Shane’s shower. Some days I’m surprised this building is still standing because of how run down and rickety it is. It will be nice when they have the brand-new clubhouse. Not that I’ll be around to see it.

I make a mental note to follow up on an apartment downtown right as a knock comes at the door.

No one comes by this early except Kincaid, so my chest sinks when I swing the door open and find Virgil standing in the doorway instead. His cop car is parked behind the line of bikes.
