He nods and then goes to help the others bring the food in. He’s already laid the table, and the smells coming from the kitchen are amazing.

Pete pulls out the chair next to me and sits down. “They sent me to come and keep you company.”

“How long do they think it’s going to take to bring the food out?” I tease, and relief fills Peter’s expression.

“Dude, you really fucking scared me,” he says quietly.

I lean my head on his shoulder. “It scared me too. It was not fun.”

“No, I don’t imagine that it would be,” he replies. “Tank ran all the way back here to get us.”

“He did?” I ask, my heart swelling with love for him.

“Yeah. He looked really scared. I’ve never seen someone calm a horse as quickly as Rage did, it was super impressive,” Pete adds. “I know Rage is amazing with the horses, but this one was on an entirely different level.”

“Is he okay?” I ask, and then when Pete’s expression clouds with worry, I add, “I know you said he was before, but I needed to double-check.”

Pete smiles, but before he can answer, Rage and Cash walk through the door, Rage shaking the rain out of his curls and flinging water everywhere, while Cash shivers and shrugs out of his jacket.

“It’s fucking nasty out there,” Rage grimaces before his gaze finds me, and he heads straight over to me.

Moving my chair so that it faces him, he crouches down so that he can check me over himself as his hands hold my face gently.

“You look a lot better,” he smiles. He leans forward and kisses me. “How are you feeling?”

“Better. Just tired and achy,” I reply. “Is Tank okay?”

Rage nods. “Yeah. He took some convincing to calm down, but I think that was more because he was worrying about you. He’s not injured from what I could tell, but we should probably keep a close eye on him for a couple of days just to make sure.”

I let out a huge breath of relief. “Thank you for making sure that he’s okay.”

He smiles. “Of course. Now that I know that you’re okay, I’m going to go and have a shower and warm up.”

“Okay,” I reply, smiling as he kisses me again.

Cash takes his place. “Are you sure you’re okay? It was terrifying seeing you curled up in the bushes like that.”

Shadows and fear are dancing across his expression, and I place my hand on his cheek.

“I’m okay, like I said. I’m just sore, and Luc checked me out and said that I’m all good,” I tell him. I know he’s just heard it, but I also know that he needs to hear it again.

He leans forward and kisses me. “Okay, I’m going to shower too then. I’m starving, and it smells like Rafe stress-baked.”

He heads into the kitchen, and I smile as I overhear him double-checking with Luc to see if I’m okay.

Pete chuckles, “We should have taken bets on whether he was going to talk to Luc just to make sure.”

I grin, “Definitely. Although it was pretty obvious that he was going to do it, especially after I said that Luc said I was okay.”

The guys choose that moment to walk in with the food, and I get well and truly distracted from any lingering pain or tiredness as my eyes widen at the sheer amount that they’re putting on the table.

Holy crap, Rafe was kidding when he said that he panic-cooked. Damn.

Some of this he had to have already been baking, because I know that the homemade bread needs longer than he had.
