This doesn’t make me want to be productive.

Quite the opposite, actually, it makes me want to leave, and rather quickly.

Each to their own, I suppose.

The inside of the cupboards are as empty as the rest of the house. The good news is it gives me plenty of opportunity to push the inside walls of each one to see if I can find a hidden compartment of some kind.

Surprisingly, I find one, well, several actually, which you would think would be a good thing, but they’re all empty.

Boring.

And very unhelpful.

It doesn’t take me very long to search them all. I even start to press on the blank white walls, hoping for some kind of hidden room or something.

Nothing.

“Did you find anything?” I ask Pete, having fully given up on finding anything anywhere else in the room.

Pete nods, his eyes still focused on the computer as he taps away and does things I can’t even begin to understand. “Yes, actually. She only had basic security on the computer. I’ve transferred everything over to the USB. Let’s go and find the others, and I’ll fill everyone in at the same time.”

“Awesome, let’s go,” I say, already heading toward the door.

I am more than ready to get the fuck out of this house, and I am certain that I am not the only one.

We head back into the main room of the house, and I call for the others as we go.

“Did anyone find anything?” Trick asks as soon as he strides into the main living area where we’re all gathered.

“Nope, there were spaces in the ceilings that shouldn’t have been there, exactly where I thought that they should be, but there was nothing in them. Every single bathroom had one,” Luc replies, the puppy sat at his feet.

“It was the same for us,” Trick replies. “Lots of hiding places where you said that they would be, but they all had nothing in them.”

“I found a lot,” Pete says. “ Would you like me to explain now?”

Trick shakes his head, “It’s probably not the best idea to talk here.”

“Agreed, I can say that she reached out to Hunt, but she did so on Drake’s orders,” Pete explains, with a slight frown.

My eyebrows rise. “I was right?”

Pete grins, “You were, good call. There are quite a few emails exchanged between them, and I don’t know how he’s managed that. He’s not supposed to have access to the internet, let alone an email. I only managed to skim-read what was being said. It needs someone to go over it properly. It’s up to Luc whether that’s us or not. I can send it all over to Mr. R, who will get the best team to deal with it.”

Luc nods and replies honestly, “ I am done with this. Unless it is extremely necessary for me to be involved for some reason. I want absolutely no part of this anymore. It was harder than I thought it would be to be here and just reaffirmed the fact that I want nothing to do with either of them.”

I walk over to him and wrap my arm around his waist as he kisses the top of my head, and the puppy nudges his leg.

She’s already tuned into his emotions, and it’s adorable.

“That’s settled then,” Trick says. It really is that simple. I can guarantee that Trick will make it abundantly clear that under no circumstances will Luc be involved again, despite the fact that Luc said ‘unless it was extremely necessary.’ There’s simply no need. Trick continues, “Pete can send the information over to Mr. R, and I’ll follow up with him when we get back to the safe house.”

“Yeah, I can do it as soon as we get back, it won’t take me very long,” Pete replies.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Rafe says wholeheartedly.

“Are we heading out of the gates or back through the gardens and the black spot in the fence?” Cash double-checks before we leave the house.

“We can head through the gates. It’s closer to where the cars are parked, albeit not by much,” Pete replies with a slight grimace that does not fill me with any confidence that the cars are actually closer if we go out the gates instead.
