“I’m pointing out the obvious.”

“At least I know what I want. You see someone for two months, then act surprised when she asks where it’s going.”

Daniel’s expression cools. “At least the women I ask out say yes.”

Eric’s hand closes around my thigh beneath the table. “Can we save the bickering for later? Ask Rachel something about herself.”

Tom turns to me. “How long have you known Chloe?”

“About herself,” Eric repeats.

Tom rolls his eyes. “Fine. What, exactly, do you see in Eric?”

Several answers come to mind, none of which I want to share with his brothers.

Tom leans closer. “Take your time. We’re not expecting much.”

I glance at Eric. He looks amused, but he’s waiting.

The first thing that comes to mind is that he’s never told me what I wanted to hear just to make things easier between us.

“He’s honest with me,” I say.

Eric’s smile softens.

“Don’t play poker with him,” Daniel says.

“Bluffing is part of the game,” Eric replies.

“Or Risk,” Tom adds.

“I have never lied during Risk.”

“You told me you weren’t going to take Australia.”

“I said it wasn’t my current priority.”

“You took it on your next turn.”

“My priorities changed.”

Tom looks at me. “He’s a dirty liar.”

“He said Australia wasn’t his current priority,” I point out. “Then his priorities changed.”

Eric grin at me. “Exactly.”

After that, the conversation becomes lighter. Tom does most of the talking, Daniel adds the occasional dry comment, and neither of them mentions Friday’s vote.

“How much has Eric told you about us?” Tom asks.

“Very little.”

“Best for everyone,” Eric says.

Tom ignores him. “Did he tell you he used to inspect our bedrooms?”

I turn to Eric.
