My heart pounded.

Yoichi watched. “What did you see, little witch?”

“The thread. It was red and. . .beautiful. It connects us.”

“Now you understand even more?”

“Yes.”

“You’re mine forever.”

I swallowed.

“And now you understand why I will kill anyone that—”

“Yoichi, I need you to calm down on the killing stuff.”

"How so?”

“We can be mates and you not be a homicidal maniac too.”

“How so?”

“Yoichi.”

“I am a kitsune. This is our way.”

“Raving psychotic behavior over your mate is the kitsune way?”

I swallowed.

Damn. This bond don’t play.

Yoichi must have felt the same way too. “I’ll be back soon. Not too long. Don’t move. Don’t run.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“I can’t be without you.”

“You won’t have to be.”

“Back to food, I’ve got plenty. There is a full staff—a great chef, butler, cleaners—below that can help.”

“Other people are here?”

“Yes. I just don’t want them to meet you right now.”

“Why not?”
