The Queen was never sleeping.

She's been in position this entire time. Feeding intelligence through walls my brothers didn't know had doors. Playing her own game on terms the King never anticipated because the King never looked at the women long enough to see what they were building.

The women in this family are more dangerous than the men.

They always have been.

Every piece she's given me is spinning and the pieces are landing and I can feel the picture forming the way you feel a bruise forming — pressure first, then shape, then the sick certainty that the thing taking form has been there all along and you just couldn't see it because it was standing too close.

Three facts. Three lines on a grid. I don't guess. I eliminate until only one name is left.

The sedative was precise. Not street-level, not guesswork. Someone who knew exactly how much to give a nineteen-year-old to put him down without killing him. Someone who has been calculating doses for decades and got mine right to the milligram. That's not a contractor. That's a professional whose hands have been doing this longer than I've been alive.

The injection was clean. No hesitation. No bruising. The needle went into my neck like the hand that placed it had done it thousands of times before and the muscle memory was so deep it read as care.

Read as care.

My throat tightens.

And the third thing — the one that makes my stomach heave. Whoever did this stood close enough to reach my neck without every alarm in my body going off. Close enough to touch me. And the touch registered as safe — not because the person was safe but because the person's function bypasses every instinct I have. One category does that. One.

Medical care.

The three facts converge on a single name and the name has hands that have touched every member of my family.

Dr. Vincente Costa.

The man who held my mother's hand while she died. Who sat beside her bed and adjusted her morphine while the King sat in his study and built empires instead of holding his wife. The man whose black leather bag sat open on Romeo's counter three times in five days when one visit was requested. Stethoscope. Blood pressure cuff. Pen light. Four vials in a neat row.

The man whose presence reads as healing. Because medicine is the only mask I never thought to strip.

Costa put the needle in my neck. Costa walked through the gap the King coded into Fabio's security and delivered chains and anchor bolts and sedatives into this corridor while my brothers slept above him trusting walls their father had already rigged.

The King placed him there. The way the King placed every piece — deliberately, patiently, with the calm efficiency of a man who weaponized his own wife's dying to embed a spy at his sons' most vulnerable point.

My mother's deathbed. The King turned my mother's dying into cover.

I don't say the name aloud.

The name is a blade. When I draw it, the cut reaches every person in my family — Romeo who trusted him, Santino who knelt beside him at our mother's bedside, Guido who let him listen to his heartbeat through a stethoscope and carried the warmth of it for years.

I hold the name. I wait.

And the boy underneath feels sick.

She finishes.

The room holds the silence the way concrete holds cold — completely, without mercy. The fluorescent hums. She's been talking for what feels like forty minutes. Her voice has traveled through twenty years of erasure and fire and rooms and landed here, in a space with older walls and a longer chain and a man who didn't interrupt because what she was giving me was worth more than anything my voice could add.

She's sitting on the edge of the cot with her hands in her lap. Those hands just held something heavier than any body she's ever touched — the full weight of her own history, set down in the space between us.

Trust without guarantee. The most dangerous thing she's done since telling the King no.

I've got everything. Shadow Network mapped. Costa's name filed like a blade waiting to be drawn. Zina's intelligence understood. Giovanni's system taken apart in my head the way it will eventually be taken apart in the world.

But I'm not looking at the intelligence.

I'm looking at her.
