“Can I help you, Honey?” I ask.

It takes everything inside me not to roll my eyes when I say her name—Honey. How stupid. I mean, I guess if it was someone’s real name, it might be kind of cute, but I refuse to think that anything about this woman is cute.

“I was just looking at her. I noticed the door was cracked open when I walked by, and I was wondering if Hound was back.”

“You were wondering if Hound was back?”

She hums as her gaze slides down my entire body, then moves back up to meet my own. “Figured being away for that long, he might want some quiet and company.”

Bitch.

I take one step forward, then another. I’m close enough that I don’t have to raise my voice to be heard, but far enough away that neither one of us could reach out and do anything… like slap one another. Because I’m ready to slap this bitch across the head.

“I’m not going to entertain your words. I’m going to ask that you step aside and walk away,” I say.

She stares at me for a moment, then her lips curve up into a smirk. “It’s okay if you feel intimidated by me. I’m used to it. I just want us to be able to be friends, is all.”

“Girl, you’re going to need to walk away.”

I’m trying really hard not to lose my shit. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a fight that I can recall, but if there is someone I want to take down… it’s this bitch. I open my mouth to do that, but she speaks first, and pisses me off when she does.

Honey takes a step forward, her lips stretching into an even bigger smile. It consumes her whole face, and I’ve never wanted to slap someone in my whole life as much as I do this woman.

I think I might want to slap her more than I do my mother, and that’s saying something because I’ve been dreaming about slapping my mother since I was ten years old.

Instead of doing that, I stare into her eyes, searching her gaze. Wondering what kind of life someone has to have to try and intimidate a woman with a three-month-old baby because she’s with the father of said baby.

Honestly, I feel sorry for her.

She opens her mouth to say something, no doubt something stupid as fuck, when there is a noise toward the staircase. We both whip our heads to the side, and I watch as Brock steps into the hallway.

My breath hitches at the sight of him. He looks tired but beautiful. Long and lean as always, his face with a few days’ worth of scruff, his clothes perfectly fit to his body but wrinkled. I take a step toward him, then another, forgetting about the bitch at my side.

Without waiting for him to call me over, to reach out to me or anything like that, I rush toward him, then throw myself into his arms. I needed him. I needed him to be here, and he is.

CHAPTER

FORTY-EIGHT

HOUND

Keely throws herself against me, wrapping her arms around my waist as she holds on to me tightly. I wrap my arms around her, picking her feet up off the floor before I walk us toward my room.

“Oh my,” Honey calls out.

Turning my head, I look over to her. “Can I help you?” I ask

Her eyes widen, then her lips part before she snaps them shut. I have no clue why she’s here or what she wants from me. And I don’t care. I don’t wait for her response. I carry my woman into the bedroom and shut the door in Honey’s face, flipping the lock into place before I place Keely down on her feet.

She lifts her hands, curling them around the side of my neck as she looks into my eyes. She doesn’t shift away from my gaze, connected and frozen. Then I smile before I lower my head and touch my lips to hers.

“I missed you,” I whisper against her mouth.

“I missed you, too, Brock. So much.”

She trembles in my arms, and I don’t know why, but it fills me with power. I shouldn’t have that kind of power over another person, but I feel it. And I don’t want to ever give it back or give it up.

I slide my tongue across her bottom lip, tasting her against my skin. I can’t wait to have the taste of her cunt on my tongue again... soon. So damn soon. Releasing my woman, I take a step backward, then shift my gaze over to the bassinet, where our baby sleeps.
