His face grew serious. “It’s the least I can do after you saved my life.”
“How did I save your life?”
“You saw the car before I did,” he said. “It gave us just enough time to get out of the way.” He soaked a washcloth under the tap until the water warmed, squeezed out the excess and then gently washed the dirt and grit from the scrapes on her hands. He rinsed the cloth and stood in front of her.
Danny slid the hem of the skirt up her thighs so that he could clean the scrapes on her knees. Her core heated as he moved closer. What would he do if she spread her legs and wrapped them around his waist, bringing him even closer still?
When he touched her knee with the cloth, her leg jerked, her skin sensitized by her racy thoughts.
His hand drew back. “Does that hurt?”
She remembered to breathe before answering. “No. Not really.”
His brow furrowed. This time, he laid his free hand on her calf, holding it gently as he washed away the dirt and blood.
His big hand on her calf sent even more erotic thoughts through her mind. Thoughts of him draping that calf and the other over his shoulders.
His fingers curled around her calf and slid up the back to the bend of her knee. “It might’ve been better if the hotel manager had done this instead of me,” he whispered.
“Why?” she gasped as his fingers swirled over her skin.
“Because I’m having a hard time keeping my hands off you. In fact, I’m failing miserably.”
Danny spread her legs wider, reached for his hips and brought his body between them. “You don’t hear me complaining.”
He laid the damp cloth on the counter, reached beneath her other knee and pulled her forward until the hardened ridge beneath his trousers pressed against her sex.
“You’ve been through so much,” he said, his voice roughening. “I’ve seen what happens when a man touches you inappropriately. I don’t want to panic you by moving too soon.”
“And I don’t want to die an old woman because you don’t think I’m ready yet.” She ran her hands over his buttocks. “I’m not panicking now.” She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him closer.
Jacques groaned. “There are people in the other room.”
“I’m not interested in them,” she said. “The door is closed.”
“But not soundproofed.”
She sighed and lowered her legs. “If we’re staying the night here, I want one of the individual rooms. We’re not staying in the suite.”
He bent to take her lips in a hard kiss. “I’ll make that happen.”
She grabbed his collar and dragged him back to her, kissing him until his mouth opened, and she swept her tongue across his in a primal dance she never wanted to end.
A knock sounded on the door.
Jacques’s hands tightened around the backs of her calves. “Yeah,” he called out.
“Beaumont’s here,” Remy said.
“Almost done,” Jacques said. “We’ll be right out.”
Danny grinned up at him and almost squealed when he slid his hands beneath her skirt, cupped her ass, and wrapped her legs around his waist again. “More later,” he said and then let her legs slide down his thighs until her feet touched the ground.
Her breath caught in her chest. Danny spun toward the mirror, patted her hair, and smoothed her skirt in a haze of lust. Her cheeks were rosy, her lips swollen from the kiss. Before she was ready to face others, Jacques flung the door open and held it for her.
She marched into the sitting room, her body on fire and her mind on what later might include.
Jacques was thankful the trousers he wore were loose around the crotch. Well, they had been loose. At least all attention wasn’t on him; it was on Beaumont as he handed over the cell phones. His gaze shifted to Danny, lowering to her scraped hands and ruined skirt.
