Lacey’s head tilts in slow motion, her face tripling in my vision, as she awaits my reply. Then, she begins unscrewing the bottle, offering it for me.
I sigh, shaking my head. “Lacey, I’m not interested. I haven’t been. Ever. Please, leave me alone.”
Her mouth clamps shut as if I’ve just insulted her.
“What?”
“You heard me,” I reply, bored.
She moves too fast for my body to react and she grips my dick through my trousers, plastering herself into me, making me flinch forward and causing heat to rush to my cheeks. My throat tightens with embarrassment as I reach between us and grip her wrist to peel her away.
Not in front of my fucking friends. Not where Jordie would see.
“Move my hand and I’ll tell Heath you put your hands on me again. Your next baggie? Burnt,” she says, voice low and brown eyes piercing into me, her touch crawling through me like poison. Jordie’s wounds pulse and ground me.
That makes me pause. She’s done this twice before when I didn’t give her what she wanted. As her future fiancé, I’m not to lay a hand on her until we’re officiated, so of course when she ran to Heath with her crocodile tears, he beat me in front of the clergy. Made an example out of me.
I also need to keep Jordie safe—Lacey obviously doesn’t like the fact she’s back, and at this point, I can’t risk anything.
“Let go of me, Lacey.”
Asher and Blake are none the wiser of what’s happening, they have taken to minding their own business. Good. They don’t need to see this.
I don’t want them to see this.
“Please,” I grind through my teeth, softening my command.
“Sleep with me,” she whispers, her elongated lashes flicking downwards to my lips. Her grip on me is still firm, showing no signs of relenting, but she stumbles on her feet as she leans on me, pressing me into the hood of my car.
I swallow, closing my eyes. “No.”
Her face morphs into anger as she claws at the back of my neck, attempting to bring me down to her lips. Here she fucking goes again.
Lacey’s lips connect with mine, I know they’re there, but I can’t feel them. Good. It’s better that way. It’ll be over before I know it and I won’t remember a thing in the morning.
“Kain.” Blake’s voice interrupts her attack, pulling me out of my memories, and she lets go, allowing oxygen to return to my lungs.
She hikes her bag further up her shoulder, clenching her fist around the strap. She grips the bottle, knuckles turning white, then decides to pour the contents over my head. “We’re not done,” she warns before scuttering off to her group of friends, smashing the bottle on her way.
I rub the sticky liquid off my face. I don’t know what the fuck that was, but it’s definitely not alcohol.
“Are you alright?” Asher asks, concern present in his voice as he leans against the car bonnet.
“Yeah.” I laugh.
“Was she back for more?”
“Yeah. But it’s done now.” I search for any sign of Jordie in the crowd. “She won’t be back.” That’s a lie I’ll believe for now.
Blake watches Lacey as she laughs with her friends, but his face is unreadable. “At least Jordie didn’t see. Will you tell her?”
I clear my throat, but Asher cuts in, clearly not listening to what Blake just said. “I had one like that. It took sleeping with her brother for her to finally relent.” He shakes his head, chuckling like he’s reminiscing. “You stink.”
He’s right, this does smell. Kind of like burnt metal.
I cock my head back and it catches Blake’s attention, his eyes appearing darker.
“You slept with her brother?” I ask.
