“The rightful owner of these cars,” I said, pointing to my stolen cars.

His confidence seemed to waver as Thomas, Charles, and the rest of my guys stepped forward. The three other men got onto their feet, and I noticed one of them reach for a baseball bat. It was a bad move, no doubt, but then, they had to defend themselves.

“What do you want us to do, boss?” Thomas asked as he cracked his knuckles.

“Beat them up a bit. I need to know who put them up for this. Someone needs to pay for the theft of my cars.”

“You heard him, guys,” Thomas yelled right before he charged.

Logan remained by my side while everyone rushed after Thomas. There wasn’t any reason for me to get involved in the fight since Thomas and the guys could handle it. I sat right on the hood of the Lamborghini, watching the fight between the guys. Thomas and the rest easily overpowered the four men, and I couldn’t deny that the fight was rather boring. The fight was over within minutes, and Thomas had the men kneel down in a rather straight line.

“Who brought the cars here?” I asked, standing in front of the man who seemed to be their leader.

“I can’t answer that,” he answered through a split lip.

“Do you need me to open your mouth?” Thomas threatened.

“Marcus LaRosa, but Diana was the one running things. We only did as she instructed, nothing else,” he answered.

That came out quite easy.

But I wasn’t quick to believe it. In my line of work, suspecting every answer and everyone was pretty much a given, especially from a man who had spilled the beans quite easily.

“Is that so?” I stooped down to his level. “You might not know this, but I have a bit of a relationship with Diana, and I can’t think of a single reason why she would steal my cars.”

He paused momentarily, his face filled with doubt. I moved closer toward him and told him that I could figure out if he was lying to me with just a single call.

“Okay. I’ll tell the truth,” he finally said.

“Desmond,” another man called out his name.

“Shut the fuck up,” Thomas kicked the man who had interrupted Desmond. I turned to Desmond and told him I needed to get an answer from him.

“We were employed by a man. None of us met him, but he told us to bring the cars here and that someone would come to take them off us. Earlier this evening, Diana and Marcus LaRosa both came here to check the cars out.”

I paused for a moment, thrown off by his confession. Something was wrong. His confession wasn’t what I was expecting.

“So, you meant that the LaRosa’s weren’t the ones who hired you?” I asked him.

“No. I heard Diana LaRosa speaking to someone when she got here. I think it was the same person who hired us. They even sent someone to keep tab on us,” Desmond yelled.

“A woman?” I asked with surprise. “They sent a woman to spy on you guys?”

Desmond nodded and told me that both Marcus and Diana were a bit spooked when they realized she was trying to get into the warehouse with a camera. For a brief moment, my mind went to the odd woman who had been taking pictures of me on the day the cars went missing.

“She broke her ankle, and we had to tie her up. Marcus wanted us to kill her, but we couldn’t just kill her like that,” Desmond added. “He wasn’t the one that employed us, and we can’t risk annoying our employer.”

“How did he exactly get in contact with you?”

For a brief moment, there was a momentary hesitation from Desmond. I could tell that he was considering if he would be making the right choice by providing me with that information. I reminded him that his survival depended on whether I found him useful, and he immediately told me that the person had reached out to them by phone.

“And you’ll be able to recognize their voice if you heard them?” I asked Desmond, who shook his head.

“They used some kind of voice modulator or something.”

That wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear, but all hope wasn’t lost yet. He had mentioned that there was a spy, which meant she could give me details about her employer. I told Desmond to get on his feet and lead the way. Right at the back of the warehouse, someone was tied up. Even before I got close to her, I could tell it was a woman.

“You bastard,” I said, kicking Desmond right in the back. He fell to the ground, and I proceeded to kick him again. “Why the fuck would you tie up a woman?”
