He folds his long legs into the cramped space, making me second-guess my silly plan, but by the time I reach the driver’s side, he’s settled in with the seat all the way back.

He drags the seat belt across his chest and snaps it in place. “I’m all yours.”

With a few turns of the key, the engine fires up with a cough and a sputter.

“I was hoping you’d say that.”

“I am, you know.” He locks his gaze on mine and takes my hand across the gearshift. “All yours.”

Getting lost in him would be easy. I should be terrified, but I’ve never felt this safe in all my life. “I’m yours, too.”

His gaze pulls me in until our lips come together in a quick kiss.

“Take me to my surprise.”

While I navigate the short distance, Jordan clicks through my radio presets, smiling with each selection. Then the Comet Drive-in marquee comes into view, and his eyes light up.

“Say Anything?”

“It’s a double feature with Dirty Dancing. They’re playing eighties movies every weeknight during spring break. I think tomorrow is The Princess Bride and Pretty in Pink. And Wednesday is Sixteen Candles and Footloose.”

He smiles. “We should come back.”

“Not Thursday night,” I say as I pay for our tickets.

“What’s Thursday?”

“The Breakfast Club.”

Jordan groans. “I’ve had enough of that movie to last the rest of my life.”

“Me, too.”

“What about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?” he asks. “It’s a crime not to include Ferris in eighties week.”

“Friday night. Ferris and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”

“We should definitely come back.”

“Deal!”

We’re early, so I park near the projection building for the best view from the back seat and pop the trunk for the goodies I stashed.

“I didn’t know if you were a popcorn or candy person, so I brought both.”

Jordan lifts the drink cooler from the trunk. “Sneaking in food? I’m shocked.”

“Everyone sneaks in food.” I drag out the picnic basket.

“Don’t let the piercings fool you. I was a Boy Scout.”

“And Boy Scouts don’t sneak into movies without paying?” I rest the basket on my hip.

“Nope.”

I arch an eyebrow. “Surely you’ve shoplifted a candy bar or a can of soda before?”

“Not even a pack of gum.”
