Love, Lies, and Too Many Guys

A shudder runs through me. “Don’t do that again.”

“Why?” He snickers. “It’s what guys do.”

The more time I spend with Caleb, the less I like him. Unless one of the other guys screws up in a major way, he’s gone after the next round.

I flash a toxic grin. “No free samples.”

Caleb drifts away, putting some breathing space between us. “I, uh, need to stop by the restroom before class. I’ll see you there.”

He stalks off before I can reply.

As I approach the math building, Jordan comes around the corner from the opposite direction, stopping my heart.

“Kennedy.” The sound of my name on his lips makes my knees go weak.

Play it cool. Say hi. Say . . . something.

“Where the hell have you been, Keller? When you said Friday, you didn’t say you’d miss half the day.”

So much for playing it cool.

Gaze locked on mine, Jordan doesn’t slow his approach as he bears down on me like a man on a mission. His eyes blaze, sending a lick of heat skipping over my skin. I let out a whimper, my brain turning to mush as we play a tantalizing game of chicken in the shadow of Benton Hall. I’m not sure who flinches first—which one of us makes the first move—but our mouths collide, our lips coming together like missing puzzle pieces.

Jordan hauls me into his arms, lifting me off the ground, and I decide then and there, I never want him to stop kissing me. He tastes like powdered sugar and secrets, and God help me, I want everything he’s willing to give.

My lungs burn from lack of oxygen as I hungrily attack his willing mouth, and yet it’s as if I’m breathing for the first time. I melt into the kiss, wondering why we waited so long to do this.

Too soon, he lifts his lips from mine. “I missed you, too, princess.”

Then he steals another quick kiss before turning and walking back toward the quad, leaving me a trembling mess.

If he keeps kissing me like that, Jordan Keller can have all the free samples he wants.

“What am I supposed to wear to go bowling?” With a maxi dress in one hand and a frilly peasant top in the other, I stand in front of the full-length mirror hanging on the back of the bathroom door. “And whose dumb idea was this, anyway?”

Nicole eyes my reflection with a grin. “If you want to get technical, it was your dumb idea to put me in charge of this whole plan.”

“I’ve created a monster. All that power, straight to your head.” I throw a weak glare at her in the glass, but it comes off as little more than a pout. Bowling is for little kids and old people. And it’s the furthest thing from sexy I can imagine. “I should fire you before things spiral any further out of control.”

She flashes a sugary smile. “Then who would help you pick out clothes and eliminate losers?”

“I’d manage.”

I glance at the pile of discarded clothes on my bed, making Nicole erupt in loud laughter.

“I could, you know.” I huff, shrugging out of the umpteenth top in the past forty minutes. “If I wanted to. But we both know I don’t . . . want to.”

“Exactly. Now quit complaining. It’ll be fun. You’ll see.” She digs through my drawers until everything I own is scattered across my bed. “Don’t you own anything even a little sexy?”

“I guess not.” I sigh. “Can’t I wear jeans and a cute top?”

“Sure.” She smirks. “If you owned a cute top. Which you don’t. No wonder you’re still a virgin.”

Frost glitters in my glare. “Why don’t I just go naked? Why waste time? May as well give them what they want.”

“I’m sure the freak . . . I mean Jordan would love that.” She fakes a smile as she drags out his name for dramatic effect.
