“My cat is sitting on you.”
“I noticed.”
“And you’re allowing it.”
“He’s warm.”
Darcy starts purring, and I bite my lip. Bishop points the remote at me. “Don’t.”
“You love him.”
“Get the fuck out of here.”
“This is beautiful.” I pull out my phone to capture the moment. “My guys bonding.”
I wish my mouth had a backspace option, because the minute the words are out, I regret them. That’s been happening a lot lately. Thankfully Bishop doesn’t read too much into it.
“I will evict both of you.” He teases.
“You asked me to stay.” There I go again.
His thumb stops over the remote. The words hang there. Too close to something neither of us has touched in days.
I tuck my feet beneath me. “Until Halloween.”
“Right.”
“Oh, by the way, that reminds me. I need to find a costume.”
Bishop glances over from the other end of the couch. “For what?”
“Halloween. Avery invited me to a party.”
“Where?”
I turn my head. “I don’t know yet, Dad.”
“Funny.”
“I thought so.”
“You going alone?”
“With Avery. Hence the Avery invited me part.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Of course it isn’t.
“We’ll probably Uber.”
His attention goes back to the TV, but I can practically see the gears turning.
“I’ll get you a car.”
“Bishop.”
“What?”
