He seemed to shake himself out of whatever he was thinking and gestured toward the hall. “Come on, we’d better get out of here before it gets too late.”
She started down ahead of him, trying to keep her cool. To pin on an act of confidence when she was getting ready to step out into the unknown.
Excitement blazing all while a smattering of fear plastered itself to her.
She felt each of Trevan’s footsteps from behind. His presence overwhelming.
Something that smelled of burnt wood and buttery, sugary candy.
“Hope you get your wish, Elena.” The words rumbled from behind. Both hard and soft.
Her heart rattled.
She peeked at him and whispered, “I do, too.”
Blood pounded through her body as Silas pulled his motorcycle up in front of a house. Night had fallen, and lights glowed from the windows.
The entire street was lined with motorcycles and cars. Heavy music filled the air, and voices and laughter rose above it.
A ton of people were out front on the lawn. Drinking beers. Far more packed inside.
She swung off and shifted on her feet. Uncertainty rippled through her being. What did she think she was doing?
“Told everyone to keep it chill tonight.” Silas rumbled it as he climbed off his motorcycle. Concern in his eyes as his attention swept between her and the house party.
“I don’t want them to change anything for me. I want to know what you do.”
Silas laughed a rough sound of condemnation. Fully directed at himself. “Last thing I want you to witness is what my life really looks like, Elena.”
Her brow pinched. “And I don’t want either of you to hide from me. I’m not a little kid.”
“Doesn’t mean this is a good place for you. Isn’t a good place for anyone,” Silas said.
“Then why are you a part of it? Either of you?” She looked between them.
Silas sighed and shook his head. Clearly refusing to answer since he said, “Come on, let’s go inside.”
He strode off ahead of her, and Trevan came up to her side and leaned down to murmur in her ear, “Stick close to me.”
Chills skated her skin with his familiar instruction.
She intended to. Didn’t want to be anywhere else.
She wanted him. In any and every way.
So, she followed him into the fray and into the type of debauchery she had no idea could possibly exist, let alone be a part of their lives.
Drugs piled on the coffee table. People having sex out in the open.
Her stomach soured.
This was what Silas meant by chill?
But she didn’t want to flinch or seem like she was uncomfortable. Didn’t want Silas to turn around and march her out the door.
Too sensitive to be privy to this.
She took the beer that Silas gave her and trailed behind him and Trevan over to a private spot in the corner of the room where an old couch and chairs were situated.
