I PUT A SPELL ON YOU…
One year ago…
“You know, Val,” Mariah, one of my best friends, looks around then at us. “This might have been the best idea you’ve ever had.” Val, my other bestie, beams, looking as if it was the best compliment she has ever heard.
We are currently celebrating Mariah’s bachelorette and doing it in a whimsy way. Val was tasked with picking our destination and the date while I was in charge of outfits and activities.
How are we celebrating her bachelorette? Four Words—Halloween in New Orleans. We are dressed up as hot demons since Mariah is marrying one. Yes, an actual demon. Like horns, red eyes, and defined, and I mean defined, abs.
I mean damn. That man is fine.
I wish he had some demon friends or something for me since human men are terrible.
Last year while on a getaway, she rented the same cabin as him. Turns out, he owned the cabin and there was a mix up. One thing led to the next and she thought she killed him.
Obviously, he’s not dead and they had amazing sex.
I can’t lie and say that I’m not jealous of her. Sex with a demon sounds like just what I needed.
I snort. “It’s the only idea she’s ever had.”
“Hey!” She frowns. “I’ve come up with ideas in the past.”
I glance at her in disbelief. “Okay, like what?”
She scratches her head. “You know…that time I…you know.”
“I don’t know.” I cross my arms and tap my foot impatiently. “Why don’t you explain it?”
“You know what. I don’t have to explain shit, Evie. Kiss my ass.”
“I would, but I like fat asses and yours is…lacking.”
She gasps. “That might have been the meanest thing you’ve ever said to me. How do you sleep at night after being so evil?”
I smirk. “With the fan on.”
“Are you guys done or what?” Mariah snaps. “I’m completely sober during my bachelorette because you two aren’t doing your damn jobs.”
“Sorry, sorry.” I hold up my hands in surrender. “Somebody get this woman a shot before she starts crying about it."”
“I'm not going to cry.”
“You cried this morning because you missed Daemon. Mind you, you saw him five hours prior.” Val curls her lip in disgust. “I’m taking your baddie card.”
“What!” she exclaims. “No. Please. You can’t.”
“Oh,” I hold up an invisible card between my fingers, “but we can.”
She straightens up and salutes us. “I will earn it back.”
Val looks her up and down, doubting her. “Actions speak louder than words, soldier. It’s time for you to show us what you got!”
“And I swear to god, my damn neighbor is a vampire,” Val says with irritation then throws back a shot of Tequila. “She never leaves during the day.”
“Or,” I hold my hands up defensively, “and hear me out, she could just be working from home.”
