“You promise this is nothing we need to worry about? No danger?” Justice asks, and I refocus on him.
I shake my head no, but in a split second I remember some details of the vision. There’s no danger I can see right now, but the vision definitely hints at something bad to come. I just can’t tell whether it has anything to do with the Spiked Raiders. I don’t know how to make sense of it.
“Everything is fine. No danger.” I do my very best to keep my uncertainty from filtering into my words.
Thankfully, none of them push for more information.
“Fine, if you say you’re good, I’m going to believe you.” Justice jerks his head up, using his chin to point toward Primal. “You get her home and make sure she gets there in one piece.”
“What?” Primal and I shout at the same time.
I don’t need an escort home, and I definitely don’t need a babysitter.
Justice glares at both of us for a second before he starts talking again. “I hope to all the gods that neither of you is about to start questioning me."
"Justice gave an order," Corbin declares. "Primal will see to it that you get home.” He snaps his attention to me first, then to Primal. “I want you to get her there and make sure she’s safe.”
I see Primal clamping his mouth shut. He’s not going to argue, no matter how much I want him to. I don’t need a babysitter. I’m more than capable of getting home by myself.
There’s no point in going back and forth on this.
It’s best if I just get this done.
“Let’s go, Kitty,” I mutter to Primal.
He growls loudly. “For fuck’s sake, stop calling me that.” He pushes past me, storming toward the door.
This whole situation is messed up, but getting under his skin adds some humor.
At least there’s one thing I can laugh at.

Primal
This is the last place I want to be and the last thing I want to be doing.
On a dark road, walking on two feet with this woman standing near me. I should have brought my bike. It would have gotten her home faster, but the thought of her riding on the back of my bike grated on my nerves. Granted, I’ve never had a woman ride with me, and though the thought crossed my mind, I pushed it away just as quickly. I wasn’t putting her there. I didn’t want her that close to me.
She’s not even that close to me as we walk, but just being in her presence is more than enough to put me on edge.
I truly can’t stand her. She grates on my nerves with the way she hums as she walks, making my lion roar in my head and claw at my insides.
“What are you humming about? Can’t you walk without making noise?” I finally snap, unable to contain my frustration.
It’s so sudden, and I feel bad about it until she focuses on me and narrows her eyes. “Why would I need to be quiet? It’s not like anyone would have any trouble finding us. Your scent is far more intrusive than my soft humming.”
My scent?
That is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t smell. Without thinking, I turn my head to the side and give my pit a quick whiff. It’s not rank, but it’s not mountain fresh either.
Before I can turn my head, she starts to chuckle, she must have seen me do it.
Fuck.
What is it about this woman that . . .
