I look back.

"How many?"

It takes me a moment to understand what he is asking.

I shift back into my human form and close my eyes. I reach through the bond again. There are just two. Sibley and someone else. Someone darker.

"Two."

"Just Kakos?"

I nod.

Corbin slowly smiles, then steps back.

"Then this isn’t our fight."

Justice frowns. "What?"

Corbin folds his arms across his chest. "We’re only here if he needs us." He looks directly at me. "But only one man gets to save his mate. We all know this better than anyone."

One by one, each of my brothers gives me a clear path to the front door.

Nobody is going to take this from me. Nobody is going to stand between me and the woman waiting inside.

I turn back toward the house.

The front door practically exploded inward as I hit it.

The smell of blood hits me.

I round the corner into the main room, but I see nothing. It doesn’t deter me. I know she’s here. I rush down the stairs and nearly collapse when I see her.

"No . . ."

The chair she’s tied to lies on its side.

Her wrists bound behind her with heavy iron restraints linked to the ground.

Blood pours from deep cuts across both wrists, dripping steadily onto the floor beneath her.

Kakos stands over her.

He slowly turns.

His golden eyes glow unnaturally bright.

Confusion spreads across his face.

"You . . ." He looks almost disappointed. " . . .found us."

My lion answers with a roar as I shift once more.

“You weren’t supposed to find us,” Kakos shouts and lunges.
