His brows go up and down, and oh, hell, my panties are already soaked for him before he even makes his next promise. “You’ll see why whenever you’re ready.”
I’M READY. TAKE ME NOW.
I draw in a breath, and then I speed up on the drinking and slow down on the food as I anticipate what might be coming after dinner.
Namely…me.
CHAPTER 17: Ivy Maddox
My Husband Asked Me to Move in
Dinner is at once both way too fast and far too slow, but as we slide into the truck afterward, I’m curious where the night will take us next.
“Do you need to get some things from Everleigh’s place before we head home?” Cash asks, and I nod.
“At least an overnight bag and my stuff for tomorrow.”
“Do you want your car?” he asks.
“Yes, but after a different drink with every course this evening, I’m in no condition to drive,” I admit.
“You’re supposed to sip, not chug,” he teases.
“Well, sex isn’t the only thing I’m inexperienced at.”
He groans. “Don’t remind me.” He clears his throat. “So you’re not a big drinker?”
“Not really. My friends all drank in college, and they’d come home looking like idiots.” I shrug. “It just wasn’t for me. I was focused on my studies, and on the rare occasion I did have a drink or two, I’d feel so much more unfocused the next day. It just didn’t seem worth it.”
“That’s why you should drink more. Build up the tolerance.”
I laugh. “Oh, is that how that works? Because if that were true, you should have a pretty high tolerance…yet somehow we’re married right now.”
“Touché.” We pull up to Ev’s house, and we walk up to the front door together.
I ring the bell twice just in case the newlyweds are having couch sex or something, and Bruno appears as I let myself in. She scampers away when she sees it’s me, and I forgot that Maverick is out of town for the first week of training camp for the Vegas Aces.
“Nice place,” Cash says as we head up the stairs toward the room I’ve been occupying.
“Ivy? You home?” a voice calls a moment later from a room upstairs.
“Yeah, heading up to my room!” I call back.
We walk into my room, and I grab my suitcase from the closet.
“Oh!” Everleigh exclaims from the doorway. “Sorry, I didn’t realize you were here.” When I glance up, I see she’s talking to Cash.
“Hi again,” he says, and he extends a hand to Everleigh for a friendly greeting.
She shakes it. “Hey. Um, Ivy, what are you doing?”
I glance up. “Packing.”
“Yes, I see that, but…why?” She folds her arms over her chest as she leans on the door frame.
“Well, you asked me to move out, and my husband asked me to move in, soooo….” I draw out the word and trail off at the end so she can put the rest together.
“You’re…you’re—moving in with your husband?” she repeats.
