“Pretty sure this is her. Katrina St. James in Portland, Oregon. Works as a nurse in a medical center just outside of the city in the suburbs.”
I sway, but Rome presses his hand to my shoulder, keeping me steady.
“She never officially took my name.” My voice is a hoarse whisper. “We didn’t have time to file all of the paperwork.”
“Which is why it would be brilliant if she took it as her alias. No one was looking for her with that name,” Mateo says.
Julian nods at his second, Jack. “Get the jet ready. We’re leaving in an hour.”
“Boss.”
“Help!” Suddenly, Natasha’s at the door, waving us all down. “Lulu’s in labor! I just called an ambulance. Rome, get your ass in here.”
I blow out a breath as my brother sprints inside to see to his wife.
“We’re staying,” I say to Mateo and Julian. “This could be a wild-goose chase, and we can’t leave him when she’s having that baby.”
“We’ll go,” Spider says as he nods at the other number twos. “The four of us will go see if it’s her, and I’ll report back as soon as I have eyes on her.”
I nod as the men rush off with their orders, and we return inside the house, where Lulu’s breathing hard and the girls are fussing around her.
“My water just broke,” Lulu says. “The baby isn’t actively crowning. We have plenty of time.”
“Thank fuck it’s not crowning, whatever the hell that means,” Julian mutters next to me.
“Call off the ambulance,” Rome says as he calmly gathers his wife into his arms. “We’ll be faster.”
“I need my bag, and—”
“I’ve got it,” Lulu’s best friend, Scarlett, says as she comes rushing down the stairs with a big suitcase in her hand. “Let’s go have a baby!”
Seven hours and twenty-three minutes later, Rome strolls into the waiting room, a smile on his face, and announces, “Sabrina Catherine Alexander is here, she’s gorgeous as fuck, and she’s going to set this world on fire.”
The waiting room erupts with excitement, and I pull my brother in for a rare hug.
Rome doesn’t like being touched.
“How’s the pretty little bartender?” I ask him, referring to his wife.
“She’s so fucking strong and perfect.” His voice is full of awe. I’ve watched this man do unspeakable things without breaking a sweat, but he’s nothing but goo over his girls.
My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I turn away to pull it free and see that it’s Spider.
“Report,” I say, and the others quiet down as they watch me.
“We found her, boss,” Spider says, his voice grim. “It’s absolutely her.”
My wife is fucking alive.
“I’ll get on the jet.”
“There’s something else,” he says before I can hang up.
“What?”
“Fuck,” he growls.
“Just spit it out, Spider, before I take your tongue out the next time I see you.”
