“Chance,” I said.
“Trouble,” he said, repeating my name in the same tone.
Ignoring him, I asked, “How did we get in?”
“I threw you onto the balcony, just like you did with your sister’s car keys.” We exchanged looks, and then that familiar, mischievous smirk appeared on his face.
I sighed and said softly, “There it is.”
He asked, “There what is?”
I told him, “That smirk on your face, the one that makes me want to slap you.”
He teasingly replied, “You like my face.”
I couldn’t help but admit, “Unfortunately,” with a chuckle.
He laughed, pulling me closer before I could stop him.
“Naw, but all jokes aside, you were lit as fuck and wanted to go home. Your best friend was here, but when she left, I changed your clothes and was about to leave, but you asked me to stay. So, I did.” He shrugged.
I probably should have felt embarrassed, maybe irritated, and definitely suspicious since the last clear memory I had was of acting like a fool yesterday. However, waking up wrapped around Chance felt more natural than I would have expected. I was going to check Sage’s ass. How she leave me with a man she never met before. He could’ve robbed us and kidnapped me.
I rested my hand against his chest, feeling shy all of a sudden. I was gon’ be pissed if we had sex and I didn’t remember it because I was pissy drunk.
“Did we…?” I let my words trail off.
“Naw, you were too drunk. I’d never take advantage of you like that.”
I searched his face for a second. For some reason, I believed him. Even though I felt some kind of underlying message in his statement.
“You probably think I’m crazy.” I groaned and covered my face with both hands.
He laughed again and grabbed my hands from my face. “Girl, cut the shit. You were enjoying yourself. You good, shorty.”
“I’m serious, Chance. I’m sorry.”
His expression softened just a bit, and the teasing faded away. “I said you good. You ain’t got to apologize.”
“Yes, I do.” I sat up, now straddling his waist. “I know I was doing the most.”
Chance sat up with his back against the headboard, but he was still holding me in his lap. I studied him, but before he could respond, I felt his dick pulse under me. I tried to ignore it because I truly felt dumb. I tried to jump his fence and bumrushed my way into his home, spent bands on his credit card without a single thought, and then I got blackout drunk. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the last time I saw him, forreal.
He opened his mouth but then closed it. Nothing came out. He looked as if he was about to tell me something that would devastate me, but he shook it off.
“What was that face, Chance?”
He looked like he was fighting with himself. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
My heart started pounding, and my throat tightened. I immediately thought the worst and just started to blurt out whatever came to mind.
“You got a baby?” I asked with narrowed eyes.
“What? Naw moe.” He looked a bit disgusted at the idea of having a baby.
“A girlfriend?” I asked suspiciously.
He shook his head. “No,” he said with a straight face.
