“You better start using everything you have. Even the gift you let go to waste. That could help you get the upper hand.”
“Gift? What gift?”
“It’s nothing.” Alaska waves him away. “Nothing important.”
“It’s incredible what he can do, Leo. Don’t let him fool you.”
Alaska tries to change the subject. “Hey, do you know why my mate creates lubricant?”
I bury my face in my hands with embarrassment. “What the fuck, Alaska? Don’t use me to change the subject!” I bite at him with annoyance.
“He’s probably going into heat. You’ll go into a rut and have an absolute fuckfest. It might lead to pregnancy. I’m shocked the heat hasn’t overcome you both by now.”
“I’m sorry, what? Excuse me? What did you just say?” I lean forward, pinching my lips together. My ears ring, alarms ringing in my head. There’s no way I heard him correctly.
“Well, men and women pairs have children. I don’t know much about same sex pairings, shockingly. I can ask around though. I might know someone who can help. Anyway,” Lorcan sighs as if he is bored. “Thanks for the food. I have to go talk to my boss. Tootles.” He wiggles his fingers at us, vanishing in the next blink.
“Don’t listen to him. He’s a menace. Men can’t get pregnant.”
Right. He’s right.
But why do I feel like he’s wrong?
I decide to store that information in the far back of my mind. I can’t worry about that right now when another threat is here to kill Alaska. I have to focus on one thing at a time.
I turn to him, astonished that I don’t know about this. “What gift is he talking about?”
Alaska groans, tilting his head back. “Lorcan always causes a damn headache. I swear.”
“Don’t blame Lorcan. And don’t get moody with me when I just found out I can get pregnant—”
“—You aren’t getting pregnant.”
“And my mate didn’t tell me he had a gift.”
“Fine. Let’s go shower and get dressed, then I’ll take you to show you.”
I don’t say my concerns out loud, but what if Lorcan is right? What would I do then?
I’m going to find a way to kill Lorcan. I’m going to snap every little bone he has in half. I’m going to throw his skull into the pigpen because why does that fucking Void always cause trouble whenever he decides to pop up.
Now, he’s put in my mate’s head that he can get pregnant. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. In my two hundred and forty years, I’ve never heard of a man getting pregnant.
I can tell it’s all my mate is thinking about.
If pregnancy were possible, I wouldn’t mind at all. I’d love to have a family with him. I’d want our children to have the gap he has between his teeth, his beautiful green eyes, the dark curls—I’d want them to look just like him.
But it’s best if I don’t think about that and get my hopes up. I’m angry with Lorcan because now it’s all I can think about and want too. The thought of Helios round with my child has a primal urge surging through me. I’m obsessed with the idea.
He’s mine.
All fucking mine.
“Where are we?” He looks up at the canopy of the trees as I set him down.
I used my enhanced abilities to get us here quicker. There’s no more time to waste in life now. No more taking it slow. I want every second to be spent with my mate.
“We’re at your crash site.” I squeeze his shoulder to give him support.
