“You could have told me I reek,” I grumble, suddenly insecure about how close I am to Alaska. I don’t want him to smell me like this. “I’m going to shower.”
Alaska’s nostrils flare, the bright embers of a scent he enjoys. “I don’t think you smell at all. You smell fucking delicious. You were sweating a lot in your sleep. I think the bloodroot was coming out of your pores. That’s probably why you think you smell. I think you smell delectable. Your natural scent is intoxicating to me.” He dips his head, staring at me with lust-filled red eyes. “How about I help you shower?”
I’m out of bed in the next second. “Last one there gets to wash the other.” I decide to make a game out of it.
He stands, gripping the collar of his shirt, then tugs it over his head. Holding the shirt in his fist, he tilts his head with a smirk. “That sounds like a win-win situation to me.”
I grin and take my first step, swaying as dizziness hits me out of nowhere. Alaska is there in a flash, wrapping one arm around my waist to steady me.
“How about I take care of you since you just beat death? You’re probably dehydrated and need some food. Stay right here. I’m going to ask Soren to make a few sandwiches and to bring some water. I’ll help you to the bathroom.”
“I can make it to the restroom. I’m okay. Really.”
“Be a good boy and listen to me,” he growls in warning, that has my body pull forward as if he’s a magnet. Goosebumps rise all over my body; a wave of uncontrollable desire surges blood to my cock.
“Okay. I’ll stay right here.” I won’t. I’m not going to let him boss me around.
He narrows his eyes as he backs away. “You better not move.”
“I guess you’ll have to find out when you come back.”
“Honeybee,” he tsks. “Don’t play a game you can’t win.”
Who says I want to win? Maybe I want a spanking instead. I’m feeling good. Damn good. There’s a buzz in my veins that’s never been there before, a wave of energy that isn’t human. It has to be because of the tears. I feel invincible.
“No games.” I hold up my hands in surrender.
I know he can smell my deceit, but where’s the fun of being mated to a vampire if you don’t test him in return?
He opens the door, continuing to back out, his gaze never leaving mine.
Well, I can’t run to the bathroom with his eyes on me. I thought he’d turn around by now.
“Hey, Soren!” he shouts, standing in the middle of the hall.
I hold a hand to my chest, gasping. “My mate doesn’t trust me?” I tease, keeping my voice quiet, knowing he can hear me.
He slowly shakes his head, grinning to let me know he’s joking too.
“Yeah?” Soren yells from the living room.
“Helios is awake. I’m going to help him shower. Can you make us a few sandwiches and bring water? I’ll owe you one.”
“Not a problem!” Soren walks into view at the end of the hall, waving at me with a genuinely relieved smile. “Good to see you up and moving, Leo!”
“Thank you, Soren. I appreciate it.” I don’t have to raise my voice. He can hear me.
He gives a mock salute with two fingers to his temple and then takes a step into the kitchen.
Alaska stands there in the darkened hallway, and I’m able to see the outline of his body with two red glowing dots.
I eye the bathroom. If I hurry, I might beat him there. It’s about six steps. I drag my gaze back to Alaska, and he slowly shakes his head left and right, a gesture that says, ‘Don’t even try or else.’
It’s the ‘or else’ I want.
I leap to the left towards the bathroom door, my legs a little shaky and weak, but I manage to stand.
Just as I grab the door handle, thinking I made it, I finally beat the speed of my vampire; I feel his hands on either side of my hips, pinning me against the wall where I stroked myself into his shirt. My cheek is pressed against the drywall, his chest against my back, warm breath panting against my nape.
