That much is true.
Josie nods. “Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Okay.”
She stands, then throws her arms around me, and I hug her back hard.
“Call me when you get there?”
“I will.”
“And share your location?”
“I will.”
“And if he’s weird?”
“Josie, I married him through an internet matchmaking service, and our ceremony was in a lawyer’s office, and we weren’t even in the same office. I think we’ve established a baseline level of weird.”
“Okay. If he’s bad weird, you leave.”
“I know.”
“I mean it. You can call me, and I’ll come get you.”
“I know.”
“I don’t care if it’s two in the morning.”
“I know.”
“I don’t care if—”
“Josie.”
“What?”
“I know.”
Her arms tighten around me.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
We stay like that for another second.
Then two.
Then I pull away before either of us starts crying again.
“Okay.” I clap my hands together. “Let’s go before I lose my nerve.”
“That is not reassuring.”
“Wasn’t supposed to be.”
