I shouldn’t look at him.
“Mina, let me explain. You listened to your father; listen to me too now.”
“Explain?” I crossed my arms. “So what’s your excuse this time? What lie are you going to come up with now?”
“It’s not an excuse, Mina. I…”
“I’m sick of you.” I said quickly, meeting his gaze. The whites of blue eyes were so prominent. “You asked me if you were a burden to me, Raymond. Yes, you are. From the moment I learned who you really were, you’ve been nothing but a burden. We should never have started dating.”
“Those aren’t your words. You’re angry right now, I understand, but…”
I took a deep breath. “I want to break up.”
His eyes were on me, but I wasn’t sure he heard me.
“Raymond! I said I want to break up.”
His expressionless face tensed, then a small grin formed on his lips.
“Is that so, my love?”
He locked his hands around my hips and swept me off my feet. I blinked rapidly, struggling to break free from his hold, but my efforts couldn’t change anything.
I hate being powerless.
His calm gaze roamed over my face, then he leaned in to kiss my neck, and I wanted to cry. I wanted to kiss him back, but all I could do was push him away by the shoulder.
“I’m telling you we broke up, Raymond!”
“That’s not possible, Mina.”
“Let go of me.”
“Not possible either.”
“It’s not like before, I’ve truly stopped loving you this time.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“I’m suffocating!”
I screamed at the top of my lungs. Only then did I catch the servants watching us—if they hadn’t dropped what they were holding in surprise, I wouldn’t have noticed them at all.
Raymond broke the kiss, his gaze slowly shifting down to my face.
I held his gaze and spoke slowly, enunciating every word to ensure he understood.
“You’re suffocating me. Everything about you is suffocating me.”
His hands on my hips relaxed, and though he seemed shocked, he was able to lower me to the ground. Without taking his eyes off me, he asked, “I am… suffocating you?”
“You’re not good for me.” His face contorted with each word. Right track. “Being with you makes my life harder. I’m always stressed. I always feel like I’m on a battlefield.”
“Why? Since when…”
“It’s always been like this. You know how I am with people. I thought it would be different with you, but no. I can’t be myself around you either.”
He let out a nervous laugh. “We’ve talked about this, Mina, I…”
