“Brother”—pity marked Doom’s features—“haven’t you ever had to rent one before?”
“No. Where the fuck would I have gone that required a suit or tux?” he grumbled. “How much does it cost?”
“Less than buying one outright.”
“Where can I rent one?”
“Give me a second, and I’ll find a place for you.”
Wizard almost told Doom he had saved his ass, but he didn’t want the fucker holding his gratitude over his head for the rest of his life.
Lifting the cigarette to his lips with shaking fingers, he wondered for the thousandth time whether Natalia was worth the trouble she was causing him.
Over the past three weeks, she had been driving him nuts. Nothing was simple with her. Doom hadn’t been joking when he called Natalia the Energizer Bunny. She could fuck all night, sleep for two hours, then wake refreshed and ready for work, while Wizard wanted nothing more than to keep sleeping.
Would she let him sleep? Fuck no. She would kiss him awake then leave despite his attempts to convince her to stay and spend the day with him.
Didn’t she know how many women had begged him to spend the day with them?
He should tell her, and he would if he weren’t afraid she’d become jealous.
Natalia hadn’t been joking when she said she could go crazy. One night, he’d told her he couldn’t come by her place until late because it was Buck’s birthday and he was afraid shit would get out of hand.
She’d shown up with dozens of pizzas and a big-ass cake. The brothers had caught on to her heavy-handed use of garlic and had given the tempting buffet a pass. Unfazed, Natalia had parked her ass next to his at the bar and watched the brothers and women.
“Margarita just gave Buck a blowjob. Now she’s in the corner booth going at it with Jesus. Why don’t they go to one of the bedrooms in the back?”
There were other women having sex in the open, but Wizard noticed Margarita was the only one Natalia had mentioned.
He might never have been in a monogamous relationship before, but he wasn’t a fool. Margarita was the woman Natalia had caught him in bed with when she had come to the club unexpectedly.
“She wants to make sure Buck has a good time at his party.”
“How does having sex with Jesus make Buck have a better party?”
Wizard quickly changed course. “I meant,” he hastily corrected himself, “she wants to make sure everyone has a good time.”
“Yeah …” Natalia drawled sarcastically. “She’s already made Puck, Buck, and—”
A loud shout from Jesus drew their eyes to him, as it became obvious he was climaxing.
“—now Jesus is having a really good time.”
Wizard swallowed hard when her cool gaze returned to him.
“By the way, when is your birthday?”
Frantically, he searched for something to distract her from the question. He was afraid to admit it had been a month ago. He could practically see the questions forming in her mind about how he had celebrated. It was a minefield he didn’t want to step in.
If he lied and made up a date, he would have to keep up the pretense for however long they stayed together.
Dammit! he snarled in his mind.
“I’m not into birthday celebrations,” he prevaricated.
“Hmm …”
“Chai, I’ll take a refill when you’re not busy.”
