“You seem to be doing better today.” The next morning, Ginny and I are standing off to the side of the room at the hospital, watching another student put in an IV. The patient looks like they’re trying not to punch them.
“I’m…okay.” Truthfully, I’m so anxious about tonight that I’m having a hard time concentrating.
“Still dealing with nausea?” she whispers.
“Oh yeah. As soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning, I’m running to the bathroom to get sick. Once I do, though, I feel better.”
“At least you know when to expect it.”
I chuckle. “True.”
“So, that conversation with Easton looked intense the other night…”
“Oh. Well…”
“Everything okay there?”
“Yeah, I guess. Why?”
She shrugs, avoiding my eyes so it looks like we’re paying attention. “I sort of heard a rumor, but wasn’t sure if it was true.”
My head spins slowly toward her. “What rumor?”
She twists to face me just as slowly with a crooked brow. “That you two got married.”
“Already?”
Her eyes widen. “Are you saying that it’s true?”
“Shit.” I close my eyes and sigh. “Yes, but keep it to yourself.”
Ginny practically bounces on her toes. “Oh my God! This is…”
“Is there a problem, Ginny?” The nurse in charge calls out to us, making us freeze.
Ginny folds her lips between her teeth. “Oh, uh…no. Sorry.”
“Then let’s stop with the side conversations, shall we?”
We both nod and then wait for everyone’s eyes to leave us before exhaling.
“We can talk later,” I grind out between clenched teeth.
“Oh, we most definitely will.”
Once our work experience shift ends, I fill Ginny in on the details of my marriage. She’s giddy, which doesn’t surprise me. But I don’t have much time to analyze the entire situation because I need to rush home to finish packing a few things before Easton arrives to pick me up.
God, I’m moving in with him.
How did I even get here?
The doorbell rings before I can really answer that question because my life seems to move at record speed these days.
“Lennon!” My mother’s voice calls out to me from downstairs. I roll my suitcase from my bedroom to the top of the stairs, but I barely get down one step before Easton appears right in front of me.
“Let me get that.” Yanking the suitcase from my hand, he lifts it as if it’s light as a feather and takes it down to the landing, leaping over multiple steps like a freaking gazelle.
“I’m fine,” I snap.
