Who the Heart Chooses

Yeah, that was so much fucking better.

Easton Buckley knows how to kiss.

And it makes me wonder what else he knows how to do with that mouth.

“My parents just know how to make things very awkward very fast, is all,” I say, trying to focus on anything other than the thought of him kissing me again, or doing other things.

Easton shrugs. “I’m used to it. Remember, I spent quite a bit of time around here when we were younger. And it’s good to see that your father’s heart attack hasn’t affected his sense of humor.”

Easton wasn’t around during the worst part of his healing, but Dad actually went through a bout of depression after his surgery.

I choose to keep that detail to myself for now.

“Well, in case you didn’t catch it, they haven’t changed much.”

“Glad to hear it. Your parents are good people, Lennon. You’re lucky to have them.” I don’t miss the underlying message beneath his words, especially since Easton didn’t really grow up with a father.

“They’re embarrassing sometimes,” I challenge, but there’s a smile on my lips. “But yeah, they’re okay. In fact, their reaction to the pregnancy and wedding was a little too easygoing for me to believe.”

“Well, we can talk about that later because I’d like to get you packed up before the sun goes down completely, if you don’t mind.”

I nod. “You’re right. But are you sure you’re ready to live with a girl, Easton?”

His jaw ticks as he casts his gaze away from me, but I don’t miss it. “I’m sure we’ll both have to adjust, but we’ll figure it out.”

“You don’t have to do this.”

Those green eyes of his hit mine. “I know I don’t have to. I want to.”

“Easton…”

“Besides, we’re already married, so I’m not walking away now.” I can’t deny that he has a point. “So what’s ready to go down to the truck?”

I take his change of subject as a sign he doesn’t want to argue. And for once, I don’t have the energy to fight back. So I point toward the three boxes sitting in the corner. “Those.”

“Anything else?”

“Just that other suitcase full of clothes.” I point to the small blue suitcase standing in front of my open closet.

“That’s all you’re taking?”

“Yeah. Is that a problem?”

He fans his hand toward my open closet. “There’s still a crap ton of clothes in there.”

“Most of which won’t fit me in a few months.”

Understanding flashes across his eyes. “I guess that’s true.”

“And it’s not like I have a whole house to pack up, Easton. This is what I have.” I gesture around the space. “A room. I think it would be weird if I took my furniture since you have all that…”

Easton nods in agreement. “Okay. I guess I’ll get a move on then.”

He moves past me, picking up one of the boxes full of books and then waits for me to open the door. As his arm brushes against my chest, I argue with my nipples for reacting to the touch.

God, what is going on with my body right now?

You’re growing a human, Lennon.
