I try not to focus on how disappointed I feel yet again.
Why won’t he kiss me?
It’s not like anyone would think anything of it…
“How’s it going, babe?” he asks, brushing my hair from my face.
“Oh. Well, my first class just ended, so I was going to grab a snack that hopefully I’ll be able to keep down before my next one.”
“I’ll join you—I’m hungry too.” Turning to Patty, he says, “It was nice seeing you, Patty, but I’ve got to feed my girl.”
She grins at the two of us. “As you should. You two take care and let me know if you need anything.”
“We will.” Easton places his hand on the small of my back, leading me over to the food hall.
“Your timing was impeccable,” I say once Patty gets far enough away from us.
“How so?”
“Well, she was just drilling me about our marriage and the baby.” I blow out a breath. “Seems like the whole town knows now.”
“Even if they don’t, they will Friday night when we go to the football game, right?”
My entire family besides Sloane, of course, is planning to attend the Garnet Valley football game since they’re playing at home for the first time in weeks. We try to go out and support Hudson and his team as much as we can, but home games are just so much easier to make it to, given how busy everyone’s lives are.
“Yeah, I guess so.”
“I told the guys from work too, so don’t be surprised if they make it out. And Aiden, Crew, Beau, and Tony will probably come out too.”
I huff out a laugh. “I’m sure Blair will be thrilled.”
The men who work at the fire station with my sister love to push her buttons. She acts like she can’t stand all of the boys, but we know better. She always did get along with guys better than girls growing up, so it’s no surprise that she often spends her free time with most of her coworkers.
“Beau said she was the one who invited them.”
“Are you nervous about going?” I ask as Easton holds the door open to the food hall, waiting for me to pass through.
“Should I be?”
“Well, my parents will be there, and Blair and Nora. It will be the first time we’ll have to play our parts in front of my whole family.”
“It’s not like I haven’t met your family before, Lennon.”
“I know, but this is different. You’re my…”
“Husband?” he finishes for me with a pleased smirk on his lips.
“Well, yeah.”
He leans in, his lips brushing my ear, and my entire body tenses as I wait for what he’s going to say. “I know exactly what I signed up for, Lennon. So don’t worry, I plan to play my part perfectly.”
When I lean back and meet his eyes, his gaze drops to my mouth.
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve caught Easton looking at my lips since the wedding, I’d have like…twenty dollars.
I know it’s not life-changing money, but still. It’s significant, and it’s further confusing me about the mixture of feelings he’s been eliciting in my body since we got married.
I’m not blind. Easton is good-looking and always has been.
