“Yes, darling,” I say as I pick up my pace and thrust into her harder and faster.

Her breasts bounce against my chest, and she moans.

“I’m going to miss this when it’s all over.”

Her eyes open, and she looks up into mine. All I can do is kiss her and ravish her because she has no idea how badly I’m going to miss being inside her. How badly I’m going to miss being with her.

I grab her hands and squeeze them tightly. “Hold on, darling, because I’m about to take you on the ride of your life.”

Chapter Twenty-Three

ROSIE

I feel like a princess at a ball in my pink silk dress. My hair is long and silky, and my makeup looks perfect, thanks to Clara and Blair.

“You look really beautiful,” Clara says, stepping back to admire her handiwork. “My brother is going to hit the floor. He’s going to love it.”

Blair nods. “You’re gorgeous, Rosie.”

“He’s not even going to notice me,” I say, laughing, even though I wish the words weren’t true. “You guys know this is fake, right?”

“Yeah, sure it is,” Clara says, giving Blair a look. “It’s super fake. But you still look gorgeous. Come on. Let’s go show everyone how beautiful you are.”

“Your parents don’t think I’m beautiful.”

“Oh, trust me, Dad definitely likes you,” Blair says. “I heard him talking to Granddad the other day. It’s only Mom who has the issue because she really wanted Veronica for a daughter-in-law. That’s not going to happen, thank God. I’m so glad Brett never went down that road because I can’t stand her.”

“You two are always trying to make me feel better.”

“Because we love you, Rosie,” Clara says. “I wish you really were going to be our sister.”

“I know. That would’ve been cool. But, hey, let’s go sell this engagement to your grandfather so he gives Brett the trust.”

“Let’s do it.”

“I’ll go round everyone up,” Blair says and runs down the hallway.

Clara and I walk down the corridor, and she squeezes my hand. “I know you and my brother are, well, doing whatever you’re doing. But I wanted to say I’ve been really glad to get to know you, Rosie, and I hope you two figure things out.”

“What do you mean?”

“Nothing.” She smiles. “Just that I hope it all works out the way it’s meant to.”

“Yeah. I’m sure it will.”

We stop outside the large living room, and she steps in front of me. “Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the belle of the ball, Brett’s fiancée … Rosie! Come on in, Rosie.”

She starts clapping, and I step into the room.

Everything goes silent, and I feel every eye on me. Theodore and Lena are standing to the side, nodding approvingly. Tyson watches me with something like approval, but I can see Celia is not happy.

And then I notice Brett. He’s standing there, his eyes bright and a wide smile on his face, and he can’t take his eyes off me.

“My beautiful fiancée.” He steps forward, takes my hand, and twirls me around.

“I really do feel like Cinderella.”

“You look like a princess. No, I take that back. You look like a queen.”
