“Don’t mind her,” Marcus says. “That’s Patrice. She’s a yoga instructor who’s also trying to be a comedian.”

“What? I am a yoga instructor who is also a comedian. I’m not trying to be a comedian, Marcus.”

“Uh-huh.” He winks at me. “So, can I sign you up?”

“Maybe next time,” I say and shake my head. “I am definitely not ready to go tonight. Not unless Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy, and two million dollars show up.”

“I’m glad that would convince you.” Marcus offers me a warm smile. He pulls a card out of his pocket and hands it to me. “Take this. Feel free to hit me up anytime you want to get up on the stage or if you want to grab a drink or something.”

“Oh,” I say, surprised. Is he hitting on me? “A drink? To discuss the comedy show?”

“Marcus is totally not smooth with the way he asks out women,” Patrice says. “He’s hitting on you, by the way, in case you didn’t get it.”

“Oh, I see.”

“If you know any men for my friend here,” Marcus says, “she’d be more than happy.”

“I’m fairly new to town and super new to the comedy scene,” I say as my phone beeps.

I look down and see it’s Brett with another article—“How to Attract the Right Man.” I roll my eyes at the link. If he’s trying to irritate me, he’s winning.

I look up at Patrice with her smug expression, and an idea hits me. “I may have a man for you, if you’re interested in handsome ex-SEALs.” I don’t bother to add the grumpy part.

“Hey, I like a man with muscle, so why not?” Patrice’s eyes light up.

“Hold on.” I tap my foot on the ground. “Let me text him and see if he’s available tomorrow to take you on a date.”

“Yes!” She beams like I just told her she won the lottery.

Hey, I’ve got a date for you. I text Brett and smile to myself.

He texts back immediately. What are you talking about?

The bet, remember?

I thought that was a joke.

No, you didn’t.

My phone immediately rings.

“One moment,” I say to Marcus and Patrice and step back.

“Hello?”

“What is going on, Rosie?”

“What do you mean, what is going on?”

“Why did you say you have a date for me?”

“Because I do have a date for you. A very beautiful blonde who’s into yoga. That means she’s limber, so your one night of passion will be amazing.”

“Really, Rosie?”

“What? I’m going to set the date up for tomorrow. That work for you?”

“It works for me if you’re interested in having your first dating lesson tomorrow, right before my date,” he grunts, which makes my stomach twist and twirl.
