“Always. What’s going on?”
“So, I kind of flirted with Brett again.” Understatement of the year.
“Okay, and what do you need me to advise you about? Or do you want me to tell you to not do it? Do you want me to be, like, your therapist or …”
“I just don’t know if I’m being dumb or if I’m throwing myself at him. Maybe I should be concentrating on trying to write a set for the comedy club. Maybe I can actually make that a career. And I was thinking about giving Marcus a call. Maybe he’ll help get my mind off of Brett.”
“Marcus is the guy who gave you his card, right?” Izzy looks at me thoughtfully as she eats her Cherry Garcia ice cream.
I nod solemnly. “He seemed really nice, and he was very cute.”
“So, yeah, girl, go for it.”
“So, you think I should just forget about Brett?”
“Well, I wouldn’t say forget about him, but forget about anything happening.”
“Yeah, I mean, there’s a part of me that obviously knows even if anything were to happen, it wasn’t going to go anywhere, but it would be fun just to see.”
“Girl, take it from me. Fun is not anything you can build a future on.”
“I know.”
My phone beeps, and I grab it. My eyes widen when I see it’s Brett.
“Let me guess. It’s the big bad wolf,” Izzy says, and all I can do is laugh.
“I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to call him. I’m going to tell him that the bet is off.”
“Oh, okay. Good luck with that.”
“Thank you.”
I open the text message and roll my eyes when I see what he’s written.
Score: Brett 1, Rosie 0. I get a point for surviving the yoga date from hell.
I text him back immediately. More like Rosie 1, Brett 0.
I don’t think so. You set me up with someone really annoying.
The yoga instructor was not annoying.
I mean, I didn’t hate her, but I was super bored.
I call him to stop my fingers from rapidly punching the screen.
He answers on the second ring. “Good morning, Rosie.”
“Good morning, Brett. You’re not winning, by the way.”
“I am totally winning.”
“You’re not any closer to setting me up with a boyfriend than I am to getting you laid.”
